Blood Test - How Safe?
um... my vet takes the smallest needle i've ever seen, and takes blood from my budgies necks, she does this will all my birds. she takes enought to fill two anout 3/4 inch long glass 'tubes'?(looks like a clear needle really but is hollow at both ends) is that risky? she had skin bond and my birds didn't flinch at all... i'll ask her why next time i pick up food. :S

Help Me Find A Cage!
i personally have the fourth one your mentioned, i love it because the blue caps can come off and they(fids) can come out the top, its hard to get additional dished and such in there though. i also like the first one, anything with its own stand wins brownie point in my house hehe.

Gina Cages From Petcetera Or Where Ever
Petcetera is selling cockatiel cages just the perfect size (in my opinion for a budgie or two) it comes with a stand and a few other things, I LOVE this cage so much I bought 5 at, well this weekend I took all the cages out, birds when in their play tree, and while I was cleaning the cages I found rust, the paint was flaking off, and under the paint rust was already forming, on every single one of the cages, I was soo disgusted, now with my 'checking everyone over' vet bill and short two cages, I’m out a couple hundred Ekk, STOP DON'T BUY THIS CAGE SAVE YOUR FIDDIES!!! This is what it looks like, Sorry small picture, http://www.petcetera.ca/sites/petcetera/up...ts/42110111.jpg three small doors and one really big one. some woman was walking out of the store with one and her new budgie. she looked me straight in the eye and said 'rust isn't bad for birds, it build character' ... they should have a test before you can own a bird. 80% or lower no bird.... grr.... so yeah.... watch out and take them back... and be nasty to the reps, I demanded the number to there supplier. Gave her a piece of my mind and then some,

Your Avian Vet
Just letting you know through my experiences that Dr Kober and Dr Weger(I think that’s how you spell it) are the only two avian vets in the city that I would chance it with. Weger is at north Calgary and is usually there in the evenings when you can’t get a hold of Kober, but working for petland (all their blue and gold macaws at least in south Calgary have or have had parrot fever watch out!) some vet in shawnessy squeezed a cockatiel chicks crop so hard during a exam that it passed away about 10 minutes later of asphyxiation (sp?) followed by an oh well at least the other two are healthy. Just watch out, a lot of wanna be avian vets in our city! Weger and Kober that’s what I tell all the new fid owners that come through my door.

I Was Sucked In
My ‘rescue’ of the day So today I went to another end of the city to another Petland to see a BGM that I fell in love with when I worked for the chain (she would be with me except she had a run in with parrot fever), anyway I had to look at the little budgies, they usually look okay if you don’t really look at their darling little faces, but I did and I noticed the weirdest looking budgie, we still haven’t got a name for her yet, her beak was horrible, it looks crusty and if someone has glued the end of her beak back on, she was totally out casted by all the other budgies even though she is beautiful if you ignore her beak. I’m wondering if anyone knows what it may be, I knew the manager there and once I said I was taking her home he told me he wouldn’t charge me and that ‘their’ vet said it was a genetic mutation and nothing could be done about it, although I know this vet has very little knowledge of the bird world, telling the store where I worked that the BGM which was obviously sick that she was okay, she ended up having a nasty bout with parrot fever and was on deaths door when she was finally taken to my avian vet. Now, she is the sweetest thing and is being quarantined in a spare bedroom she is solid yellow, with a small bit of green on her belly and between her legs nice bit of blue sneaking through she is beautiful her previous name was ‘gimpy the wonder budgie’ :angel1: I think this is inappropriate for the little doll so any name suggestions would be great, because I have no idea what to call her. I am looking crazy for a digital camera so I can set up pictures of her and so when we figure out what’s wrong with her we can document her recovery and everyone can see her progress. (Just cause I didn’t mention it she will be going to the vets in the week to see what’s wrong with her)

Hand Feeding
I usually feed them when ever their croup gets under half empty, and if you feeding from a spoon the babies will tell you how much is good, if syringe i have no idea, I eye my babies croups to see when i think they should be full, full and a little puffy but not pulling the baby down with so much food, not sure on exact CCs

Painting
no one that i feel comfortable with their knowlegde to keep my flock happy and healthy, and anyone that i feel some what comfortable with smokes or doesn't have space (its the entire flock 14 birds in large budgie cages to macaw sized cages) are boarders a generally bad choice? i think it may come to that..

Painting
Okay I HAVE to paint the house in the summer, as per the rest of the house, i am wondering how long my fids have to be boreded after painting(and what types of paint are best brand names are great!) and is there a check list for birdy boarder, there is someone in the paper all the time but what about coming into contact with other birds, maybe with dieases! and i have breeding pairs? would it be okay to keep them in the basement with UV lighting? i was unsure of vet's offices because so many things come in there doors.

Mates For Life?
i've found females like their man, not others, and males will go for anything with wings! atleast in my budgies. Good Ol bo, he's more like a dog doing his thing than a birdy gentleman

Feather Duster?
Thank you so much! so i took the little guy to the vet the today( i was really starting to get worried just over 60g before feeding) and she poked and prodded, took some blood, and decided that if dear Bailey was a Feather duster he would have been the healthiest one she's ever seen, So she's pretty sure he's not, just a giant baby, i was however advised not to sell bailey just because his little body may give out before his second or third year. So he's okay and will be just fine for as long as i can keep him that way. and i'll have pictures up just as soon as i can find someone with a digital(mine went down the toilet along with the keys and a shoe) Thank you Jennifer

Feather Duster?
Well as my title says i am wondering what are the early stages of a feather duster? i have a 5 week old chick that is just a pig at 55g (Hen is 33g Cock is 35g) and her feathers are not what i have ever seen, but she's not deaf or blind, and doesn't seem to show any of the signs i've been told about or read, just from other breeders what are some of the early signs of this mutation

Life Span
So I’m going a little off topic here, but do budgies like humans go grey? I rescued an old green boy from a pet shop a worked at and his girlfriend, (he was left by his old owners they had a sick child and all of their pets came to the shop) anyway that was a few years ago and he’s looking a little old it may just be he needs another shower (which he really does hate) And again off topic I’ve been feeding my hamster Harrison’s bird feed for 5 years now and she look just healthy as could be.
