Life Of Molly
I wrote up an article in the FAQ section about Taming Your Budgie you will find it most useful. I did that with Merlin, I didn't work on the taming as much when I had 2 now that I just have him I worked on it but I took it slowly. The nice thing is if they are already semi-tame and you work with them everyday being the single budgie they come around a lot quicker. Keep us updated Cara.

Would This Be A Problem?
I believe if you want to candle you can gently shoo out the hen from the box and then candle them, it may stress her a little bit but then you would know or you can just wait and see .

Pecking Neck Area Alot
I do think you should take in to your Avian Vet. Budgies plucking is not as commonly found as it is in the bigger birds. I wouldn't do anymore treatments for anything until the bird is throughly examined.

First Moult
As it says above, around the 3-4 month mark is their first molt, the best thing you can do is not really change anything too much like their diet, keep the temperature in the house consistent, Moult Aide is what I believe Kaz has advised I think you get that at a pet store, and you can offer them a bath and head scratch if they like them, other then that they may become more moody, grumpy and quiet but they should not act sick like listless or fluffed up.

Scaleyface Mite?
First, never have your bird diagnosised by anyone then an avian vet (the travel time is worth it) especially if you don't really don't know what you are doing. I say this not to be hurtful or mean but because birds are so delicate. My one bird was alive in the morning and by evening he was dead with no warning, I recently had Merlin go on a food strike and almost die. It is very important that you always take your bird to an avian vet just as you would not self diagnosis (or have non experts assume) your dog or cat please don't do it with your bird. Birds do need avian vets not regular dog and cat vets, so believe me the distance is worth it. It does sound like a respiratory infection or irritation. Do you burn candles in your home, do you use strong cleaners around his cage like bleach, Pine Sol, do you use air fresheners in your home, do you have your bird in the kitchen...the linings of birds lungs are very sensitive and can be irritated in a snap. Please check your home for fumes have you done any painting, is the cage by the garage anything....do some research in your home. Being a new bird owner, I would like to throw out have you started your bird on veggies, fruits and a variety of food? I know this is off topic but just seed is not a nutritional diet, they can become malnutrition and their respiratory lining can break down with not enough Vitamin A and other essential vitamins that are not always found in seed. Let us know and WELCOME to the forum!

Blue and the Vet Visit
Cara you did what you could in the situation you are in many wouldn't have even tried I am proud of you. If you get an allowance, or have a job etc...start saving up money for a vet fund therefore if you ever need to take Molly to the vet you have your own money and your grandad can't dispute it. Many people not just your grandparents see budgies as different then cats and dogs and this is sometimes a view you can change and then sometimes not. Hugs on your loss.

Life Of Molly
that is good, I would keep her as the only budgie now for at least 30 days (IF) you decide to get a new one then make sure he or she is quarantined for 30 days that is a total of 60 days for her alone to watch for signs of illness. Pretty died very suddenly and Merlin ended up being fine, I was very relieved.
