:D I am thinking of updating my Budgies play equipment since they have really started liking to climb lately, I have a nice big old branch for them to climb over and i'm going to attach more dowel perches etc to it. :D

I'm running out of good ides on toys to make for it though and know that some of you have made some very nifty gadgets for you own budgies, I thought it might be nice (and a help to me :D) if we could gather all pictures and information on your home made toys in the one place :D (Bea i know you have some great ideas :D)

I'll start by posting a picture of my home made ladder.. Its the only thing i've got so far to hang from my branch :D

I've made a few of my toys:

for the rope and rings ( the picture was a bit big, so it has a link instead), i just went to the hardware shop and bought some cotton fibre nautical rope and some untreated wooden curtain rings. For one i just tied a couple of the rings together, and Casper got a great deal of entertainment weaving himslef through them in his formative days, with the other, i just tied a couple together then braided some cotton string with little colourful metalic bells and attached that and another knotted bit of the rope to the bottom ring. He goes through phases of either climbing, chewing, tugging, screeching at and even tarzan swinging on thins one.

For his swing, i just got a couple of fairly straight bits of stick, drilled fine holes in the ends and inserted some fairly stiff wire (i did this to make sure there were no pointy ends sticking out anywhere) to form the frame. Casper loves the top bit of stick and will swing his heart out before gabbing the top bit with his beak and swinging up-side down from it. As you can see it is also a popular chewing toy!casper002-2.jpgphotobucket

Una, can you do internet shopping for different materials?

:ausb: The major issue i have is the fact that i live remote and can only do limited shopping *sigh.. I think i might have to go on a scrounge and see if i can find some beads about the place :D

I pick most of my stuff up at the dollar store - beads, etc. So toys are probably less than a dollar to make. Big buttons would also work well.

:ausb: Yeah lovey i will do a big shop up for different materials but i was just wanting to get an idea on some of the toys that other people have made and some of the supplies i may need to order. I prefer making my own toys as you can often shop in bulk for the supplies and its cheaper in the long run than buying a one off ready made toy..

I believe my budgies also prefer playing with the toys that i've made for them rather than ones i just buy and hang up for them, well considering they are there the whole time in the making process, trying to put in their little bit of input :D:P

Cheers
