  1. They are all in separate cages, in different bedrooms!!!My husband thinks I'm being paranoid about bubble's tail bobbing. he doesnt think there's anything wrong with him and im just extrapolating to the other birds. Thanks GB. All are still alive today.Pepper's runny poo has resolved. I think it was just from excess urine from all the antibiotic liquid id given her. she happily sculled 3 softdrink capfulls of antibitoci liquid when it was mixed in with a tiny bit of her old formula.she did the same this morning.now her poo has a white coating over the 'poo' part, as well as the urate component. hopefully the doxy will cover for this aswellhusband thinks bubbles' tail bobbing is in my head. quite possible im seeing things that aren't thre. she looks very happy today. thats the trouble. they all look great. not one of them looks close to sick. all eating, preening, flying well. hopefully we've got this in time
  2. Thanks Kaz apparently pepper (budgie 5 weeks) has psitaccosis. His Sx now include: clear wet sneeze 5 days, bubbles in urine, diarreah (perhaps just urine from all the antibiotic liquid ive been feeding him) now bubbles (budgie 4 months) has increased respiratory rate, possible slight tail bobbing. and chicken (green cheeked conure 5 months) has a clear wet sneeze, bubbles in urine. all have now been separated from each other but i fear its too late. i think we will lose all 3 in the next 48 hours. i cant stop crying. i only lost my last budgie (Mo, 3 weeks) to pneumonia about a month ago. I can't handle it anymore. I don't think we will get any more birds if these ones don't make it. I'm so upset
  3. Thanks KAZ What do you think about the concentration though. Should I make it more concentrated so they get the full dose or does that dosing assume that they won't consume all the water. Because I know of no bird that drinks 100mL/week. I already called the vet but the receptionist only passed on a message and it left me still confused about the concentration.
  4. Hi guys what is the dose of doxy for chlamydia infection vet told me twice but I forgot because I was so distressed all I have is what he wrote down: 1/4 teaspoon in 100mL. How long should they be treated for? My birds won't drink 100mL in a week! how will they get their full 1/4 teaspoon a week? Do I need to make it more concentrated to get the full 1/4 teaspoon? Or is the quarter teaspoon in 100mL just a concentration guide and the bird will drink what it wants
  5. Could you turn the car on and leave it on whilst packing it; that way it will be cool when you all hop in
  6. We just buried her under a big tree overlooking the beach. RIP Mo
  7. Just letting you all know that I put him to bed, checked on him half an hour later for a feed and found him seizing. He passed in my husbands hands within 5 minutes. RIP little Mo. Thanks to those of you who posted with your advice in the last few days
  8. I do need to stress less. He's just such a sweet little thing. Deserves to be healthy just like every other bird out there
  9. He is very bright. The vet says she doesn't know what the lump is but agrees its in the crop and is mobile. Says its too rubbery to be food and she tried to break it up by feeding him some Hartmann's solution and it didn't budge. She says as long as he keeps feeding well its not an issue. I was just guessing at 3 weeks based on my limited experience. I wouldn't be surprised if he's only just reaching 3 weeks now compared to other members baby birds. I don't think he's that small: Did you see these photos I posted yesterday? Now I'm worried he's small aswell :laughter: Poor little guyHim sleeping in my husbands old boxer shortshttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/8Jana.jpgPreeninghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/8Janb.jpgWing stretchhttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/006.jpg
  10. I have another vet appointment in about half and hour
  11. Oh no I've now noticed a 9x3x3mm lump in his crop. The lump is mobile and feels rubbery. I'm quite sure its solid formula. I certainly haven't fed her any formula that is too thick. So maybe it has separated from the water in the crop. Is it safe for me to attempt to massage it out myself or should I take him to the vet again? He is still otherwise very well. I just don't want to risk him getting a crop infection when he's already had such a rough start to life.
  12. Thats so sweet that they still come to you even though they're now in an aviary. How beautiful
  13. I only checked him once last night he had one feed over 10 hours and still had some in his crop. Maybe I will get some sleep after all. 14. We don't have a lamp :S But his makeshift nest box is very warm and we live in Darwin where it is currently 31 degrees. We aren't using fans or airconditioners in his room at all. I also check on him 2 hourly and he has always been warm. Force feeding for another couple of weeks?!!?! I was hoping on getting some sleep.
  15. Hi guys, Mo still has no interest in picking at formula from a syringe tip or spoon; still requires 'force' feeding but is gaining weight daily and developing well. Very energetic, testing out his wings and racing across table tops. I'm not sure when he should be interested in taking it himself? I will take some more photos today (it's 4.30am at the moment). Night alicia
  16. The verdict is that he is fine; just hungry. In the last 12 hours, he has had 8.5mL of formula using a syringe deep in his throat (no crop needle used). He gobbles it all down willingly. 8.5mL seems like a lot for just 12 hours; I thought 8mL is more likely to be consumed in 24 hours! Either way, I'm feeding him when his crop is low, not based on volumes. Just keeping track of the volumes to monitor intake. He is currently sleeping peacefully. I'm checking his crop hourly through the night because based on the last 12 hours, he empties it from full (but not overdistended) within 2 hours! Thanks to everyone for their help and kind words of support Shall keep you posted Hopefully only good news to come
  17. Thanks Maesie. I've had it for 24 hours and I'm attached. So upset
  18. Thanks Renee. I have an appointment in 2 hours. no avian vets in the territory but i found a lady who is a vet studying to become an avian vet. take what i can get. she just seems so well otherwise. flapping and carrying on :S
  19. Hi guys I just got a baby bird looks about 3 weeks old to me. Apparently it was found in the neigbourhood and someone knew I love budgies so brought it to me I feel out of my depth. I know no one that has hand raised a baby budgie before. The first and last one I hand raised was 3 years ago. I know you all like photos so here she is: http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/6Janc.jpg So I have some questions? How old do you think she is? She has made 2 quiet peeping noises the entire time I've had her (18 hours). Why isn't she calling for food? She is refusing formula; I've managed to give her 0.6mL all day today. Temperature is right, consistensy is right. Have tried a spoon, a syringe, a blunted toothpick. Nothings working. I physically have to pry her beak open to give her anything. She doesn't 'suck' it in when I just put it on her beak. I'm worried she'll starve :S Apart from this she's really quite active and stretching her wings; walking around in circles. She even attempts to preen herself (all 6 feathers lol) Another photo: http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/6Jand.jpg She also walks around pecking at the floor; almost like she is foraging. Is it possible she is looking for seed already? I offered her some but she ignores it Thanks in advance, alicia
  20. They are a bit quiet together. Did the usual leaning over each other display of dominance thing :DI'm with them 24/7 for another week still though to make sure they don't fight.Bubbles is not as friendly already :(She used to follow us around the house and talk to us heaps. Now she wont even step up onto our fingers. Hopefully she regains it. We won't give up on herThanks for your help :DShe was quarantined for 16 days. Then they found each other. Both are vet checked as well before meeting.16 days isn't ideal but the best we can do under the circumstances :S
  21. Hi guys happy new year so my husband and i bought bubbles a friend for when i go back to work (she'll go from me being home 24/7 for 6 weeks to me being home for about 2 daylight hours a day). I was wondering if you could help me out with mutations? My guess is dominant pied, yellow face, clearwing, skyblue base colour I can't get any better pictures right now to show you her wings because she is terrified of us still; but I'm sure of the clearwing part http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/010.jpg http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/JC154949/014.jpg Thanks everyone
  22. Thanks so much I know he's not 'traditionally' beautiful but he means the world to my husband and I. He's like our child. He has free reign over our whole house
  23. Thanks Dave For the reply and for not laughing alicia
  24. Hi there I know isound silly because birds in the wild don't have baked eucalyptus branches, but should I be baking These branches before giving them to Bubbles?
