  1. Please help me identify what type of budgies I have and confirm if they are both boys
  2. Hi All, I was just reading back over my breeding diary for 2009! What a long time ago that was! Since then I think I have only bred once. Tragically, one of the two chicks that were hatched died unexpectedly and the other escaped from her cage - she was too smart for her own good I say. Anyway, I'm back into it again. For good hopefully. The happy couple are: Aussie DSC_3160.jpeg and Able DSC_3141.jpeg And the beginning of their family: DSC_3159.jpeg Looking forward to them hatching. (Due date...April 5th) Have a good one!
  3. Alright, well I guess you can guess why I'm here. I'm back in the budgie world and I want to know what my birds are and you lovely people are the ones to help me. Oh, I can make some guesses but I've forgotten most of what I used to know and I'm too lazy to go back and research it from the start so I've come to you guys. Thanks! 1) 2) 3) 4) I'm dreadfully sorry about the horrible pictures.... They will improve I promise!

  5. Hi Everyone, Seeing as I have had some fluctuations and changes in my little flock lately, I thought you'd enjoy a post full of photos of who I have. Able Aussie Sandy Billy Cheeky Anzac Dandy Echo {On Left} There are two more but I don't have photos of them yet. Happy day!
  6. Picked up some new birds today. Love these little guys. <3
  7. Hey guys, If you've seen my previous post, i made a new pairing in my breeding cage about a week ago.. The male was previously paired to another female but i split him up to go with a new female. However the breeding cage is in the aviary where his old mate was and I have seen them regurgitating food to eachother through the breeding cage wire front. He doesnt really show any signs of affection towards the female in the breeding cage but they still seem to both go in the breeding box for short periods (couple of minutes) during the day. I know i should probably just be patient but i feel that I wont get any positive results if he is still 'interacting' with his previous mate. Should i take the breeding cage out of the aviary so he can breed with the female or will they get over it and settle down in the next couple of weeks? The pair that I am trying to breed are both over a year old. There is another male in the aviary with the female and he trys to peck her away when she's near the male in the breeding cage but is unsuccessful. Some answers would be very helpful.
  8. Hellooo, I have just paired up a pair in my new breeding cage and before you say it, yes i have done my research... over 6 months of it Anyway, i paired them up two days ago (yellow lacewing hen with normal green cock) and i was just wondering how long will it be until they start to bond and mate? The male was previously bonded with another partner but i separated him to go with the lacewing, :/ he seems a bit sad and misses her because he tries to find way to get out of the cage since it's in the aviary with the previous female. Could this affect how he bonds with the new female? I have read around that you can expect eggs 8-14 days after pairing? seems a bit quick to me but you never know! Anyway, let me know on what you know! cheers, Willem
  9. Hi all, Im wondering if my budgies are english in the pictures below and if there vents need trimming for the breeding season? I have heard about many people doing it but have never tried it before... is it worth it? Would love to hear the success rates between the two (dont know if these images will work) Thanks, Will
  10. Hi All, In the past in my averys, I have had budgies and King Quail together for years with absolutely no problem. At the moment I don't have any quail and I have just located some for sale nearby but they are Japanese Quail rather then King Quail. I'm just wondering if there is anyone here who can advise me on the difference and put me at rest as to whether they can live harmoniously with budgies. My avery is equipped with nice quaily hiding places and grass and places to dust-bath ect. I've kept them before I just need to know about the different species. Thank you!
  11. Hi there, I'm new here, and I've been trying to tell if my yellow/lutino budgie is male or female, and I would apreciate if somebody could tell me since I'm not really sure, I think it's a male but I need others opion.
  12. I have two budgies that are bonded to each other and refusing to tame so I am going to take one and put him in a separate cage and move him into a different room. And I am wondering if this is bad for them?
  13. Hi everyone! I’m new here, but my name is Aleesha So, I recently bought two new baby budgies on Saturday, on the 25th of April. One is 8 weeks old (Skye) and the other is around 5 weeks (Sunny). The breeder told us that they were both male by rubbing their cloaca, but I’m not sure if this is an effective way of sexing (If anyone knows, please let me know). They were both supposedly hand-raised, but when we bought them home, they were terrified, which is understandable. The second or third day we had them, my dad grabbed them out of the cage, and forced them to be held as he said this would make them get used to you. They were both so, so scared. He sort of cornered them in this little box we had and forced them to jump onto his hand. With Sunny, he placed him against his chest and held him there. I think he did this for at least three days, around 10-15 minutes each time til I finally got him to stop. They’re both quite afraid of hands now, but I’ve been sitting outside and they’re a lot calmer now but still quite far from being tame. So, my question is, is it still possible to tame them, at least so they will be able to step-up and aren’t so scared anymore. I’m willing to put in as much effort as is needed, although I can’t afford purchasing a second cage to tame them separately. If it is possible, can you please give me an estimated timeframe if I’m able to spend at least 4hours with them daily? I don't mind if it takes a long time, but we have a holiday coming up in December so I want them to be calm for whoever is caring for them then. Do you also have any tips for taming them?Thank you so much, I can’t wait to read your replies. I hope we can get to know each other lots better as I spend more time here. Also, feel free to ask for more details if my description was unclear.Take care, everyone
  14. I got my new budgie yesterday from a pet store and I'm wondering if when I should let it roam around? (My room is small and is safe.) What I've heard people say is if a single budgie just sits in its cage all day (what my budige has been currently doing) they will get depressed so should I let it out? Or do I wait until it has fully gained my trust?
  15. We just got 2 new budgies we are thinking the blue one is a female and that the green one might be a male?? I'm a new owner and I'm having a hard time figuring out their genders. The one we think is female (Blue) has a light brown and dark brown cere we think she is about 8 months old to a yearThe one we think is a Male (Green & yellow) has a pink cere with white rings around the nose which is why we are a bit unsure if he is actually a he
  16. Hi! I'm new to this forum and also very new to breeding budgies so I'm going to be asking a lot of questions on here. I thought I'd start with the most severe problem so far. How do I clean out the best box? The first baby is around 3 weeks now and the youngest is around 1or so and the best box has an odd smell around it. I'm not sure if that's normal or not but I'm just guessing it's not. I really want to clean it out but last time I tried the parents freaked out and started flying around everywhere and the babies started screaming. After that for a few minutes the hen seemed a little nervous about going into the best box but I'm not sure. Is there any way to clean it so the parents and the babies don't get scared? If not is it okay if they are scared? Will the parents stop caring for them if I clean it? Any help would be very much appreciated.
  17. So, today i was feeding my 4 budgies their food until my pet bunny came up and started to eat with them. I was wondering if it's safe for my pet bunny to be eating budgies food, he's just a month old. i just got my bunny 2 days ago and he is really blending with my budgies, especially the male budgie. I don't really know the bunn bun's gender yet.
  18. I rescued a white budgie it has eye lids closed looks crusty, can i put something natural on her to help her... New at site don't really know what im doing...sorry
  19. Hi all, I got my first budgie Sydney in December 2016 (aged around 2 months) from a pet shop and bought a second budgie Rocket (aged around 6 weeks) in march 2017 from a home breeder. I changed their water and food every few days. Ever since I got the 2nd budgie, Sydney has been puffing up and I just gathered he was doing it as a dominance thing? They live in a spare room at my house in a reasonable sized cage. The last week or so they have been shifted around a bit as I had guests and dogs, so they've been out in the kitchen and bathroom as well. My sister walked in the spare room yesterday to find Rocket (new budgie) dead in the bottom of the cage, she buried him while I was at work, when I got home 3 hours later I walked in to find my other budgie Sydney dead as well. Could anyone give me and idea of why they both died within 5-6 hours of each other? Please no hate, I've never owned birds before and I thought I was doing a good job, I'm absolutely devastated ☹️
  20. I am a huge bird lover and have mainly had larger parrots in the past (cockatoo, king, Lori) I had a budgie as a kid and have decided for my current lifestyle budgies are the best bird for me for now. These two are bringing me much joy and the get along great and already responding to a small amount of training and can step up etc. love preening each other! Only very young and pretty sure of Kevin’s sex (blue one) as his cere is nice and blue…..Nellie is a bit younger and hers is purplish at present I initially thought she was a little hen but now I’m think maybe a male too? Love the way the fluff up when they preen each other first thing of a morning….well Nellie does more to Kevin than he does to her/him.
  21. I would like to share this with anyone else who may have a similar problem, its quite long but I hope it helps someone out there. So I woke up to my poor male budgie at the bottom of he cage I was so upset, my female bird Lady Blue didn't know what was going on, we took him out of the cage and poor little blue spent the rest of the day all fluffed up and quiet and did not move much. I spent so much time with her over the next couple of day and realised she was not eating or drinking and there was nothing I could do to console her, it was heartbreaking she was really missing her mate Bobby and so was I he was a little sweetheart. Another couple of days had passed and I was now getting seriously worried as she had still not eaten or drank anything, I was in bits and I read everywhere that if a bird loses a partner you need to wait at least 2 weeks before introducing them to another, I was on day 5 and this was getting serious if I didn't do something I knew I was going to loose her and I had already lost Bobby that week and that was heartbreaking enough. I made a decision and I woke up the following morning and went straight to the pet shop and got a little male who we named Bruno, he was in a little carry cage and as soon as I got him back I put him next to little blue and watched them, after about 20 mins I could not believe what was happening little blue had gone to her seed tray and started eating and drinking, I can not tell you the relief. I left little Bruno in his carry cage till the following morning and then decided I was going to put him in with Blue and yes I had read everywhere that this is a big no no but I did it and my god it was amazing, they said hello to each other within a minute and then about an hour later my heart melted as Bruno must have sensed the Blue was stressing and upset and he cuddled into her and stayed cuddled into her for about the next 4 days, it was the sweetest thing to see I could not believe it I was so happy and I had never seen this with any of my birds. We are now 6 months in and they both get along so well together, but there is one thing that I am most certain of and that is if I had not gone to the pet shop that day and done what I did I would have also lost my little blue the next day or so. In the photo Bruno is the one of the left cuddling into Blue after an hour of them meeting, cuteness overload and so nice to see If any of your budgies have lost a partner and are not eating and drinking try what I did and at the time I didn't know how she would react and the new bird brought her around and he definitely saved her.
