Comet, My Aging Lothario

Featured Replies

:) Comet, for the most part, has stopped calling to his partner Star (layer of eggs 365 days a year) who is now housed in my bedroom. Star is doing okay, has regained her health, awaiting adoption and can sees tons out of my bedroom window;she was screaming yesterday so I went in to see what as wrong, she saw a cottontail bunny. :) Comet has started bugging my disabled cockatiel Jodie so I have had to resort to putting her in her cage when he is out and about.

Hi Honey, want to play?

No, I have told you before that it will never work out with us!

What part of no do you not understand?

Okay, while you reconsider, I shall play with your toys. (At this point I put Jodie in her cage).

Please!!!

Fine, I shall go bug Happy then.

She doesn't care for me either, will groom myself before visiting Coca.

And my battery ran out so no more pictures but Coca didn't want him either, silly old geriatric

goose, he should just be sitting in his cage, singing, being happy instead of doing daredevil

flying and trying to romance everybody. Would love to know his background, they knew

nothing except his age. Wish I had even half of his energy. :D

he is absolutely gorgeous!!!! what a cutie!! how old is he?

wow he's looking great for his age!!! he looks quite young and full of mischief!

Well, you know what they say... You're as young as you feel! Good for him to be so energetic still. :)

;) Thank you, yes he is 11 years old, hard to believe, just full of energy, whizzing around when he is out of his cage and pacing a lot when he is in it, constantly singing. The only time he seems to show his age is when he looks like he has arthritic feet :)

great pictures Pheobes!!! Comet is a man do we need to say much more? :D

:D Thanks Lovey. And when I had my "bred without a nest box babies", he was the main caregiver, I mean Star fed them too but he was feeding and taking care of everybody, you should have seen him flipping those babies on their backs! Of note, a month and a half and NO eggs from Star despite the season.

Don't forget to touch wood, Phoebe! :D

:D I think I am okay as long as I keep Star away from Comet but obviously she cannot stay in my bedroom forever. If she doesn't get adopted, I am buying a house with my Mother in the later summer, early fall (ground level suite for her, I would have my own suite) and maybe I could put Star with her for company for each other, we shall see. In the meantime, Comet is whizzing all over, he is constantly in motion, even when he is in his cage for the most part, very hyper and full of mischief. :D

He is cute and sounds like quite the character. I hope mine live that long and are as happy as he is at that age. Great pics!

:D Thanks Shawna, I really wish I knew more about his background but all the SPCA had was his age, they didn't even know his sex but I immediately knew he was a male, he sure livens things up (as if they weren't lively enough already). :D And he is one of those birds who to clip his wings would truly cripple him mentally, have never seen such an agile and confidant flyer, he excels at it with his loop de doos, he is a real showoff.

:ausb: I have often thought about clipping his wings as he is "almost there" for being tame but that would be cruel in a bird this age that enjoys flying. He usually goes back in his cage when I want him to, he has become much better behaved since Star has been removed but he has his moments, like I said, silly old goose, but I love him! He is currently bugging Buddy, the male. :)
