Posted May 7, 200619 yr I have another breeding pair also, they are pieds. One dominent and one recessive. They have four chics right now and I am curious as to what they might look like and what future offspring may look like. She (Daisy) is a Yellow Recessive Pied and he (Nanny) is a Light Green Clearwing Dominent Pied. Again, if I missed something on this pair I would be more than happy to know it. Thanks and have a great day! Daisy and Nanny Daisy and Nanny Daisy and Nanny Edited May 7, 200619 yr by missdawne
May 8, 200619 yr Unless both your birds are split blue (which isn't that hard to be true) all the babies will be green. All will look like dad which different patchs of patterns ont he wings, but that is a dominant gene and the babies only need one to appear as such. All the babies will carry (split) the recessive pied gene from mum.
May 8, 200619 yr You may also get some dark eyed clears as they are both recessive pieds, crossed with clearflight pied.
May 8, 200619 yr They arn't both recessive Clearflight pied is a dominant gene. If my reading is correct the DEC only happens with the dutch pied gene. I might be wrong.
May 8, 200619 yr ummm I think Nerwen is right. I see a dark green recessive Pied and a Light green Dominant Pied. With Recessive pieds. they will be either bkue birds (White base) or green birds (yellow base) so you call them the off colour. Your recessive pied is green (yeloow base) with the off colour being a dark green. As a dak green bird she carries a sigle factor dark factor. The babies will either be light green or dark green (Unless split to Blue) All will be split to recessive pied and 25% will be Dominent Pied. Edited May 8, 200619 yr by daz
May 8, 200619 yr Are you saying that they will all look like dad to some degree? I will not have any visual recessive pieds? They will all be split to recessive?
May 8, 200619 yr unless both parents are split to recessive pieds no because the dominant gene will mask the recessive. Does that make sense? If you want more recessive pieds for sure you will need to breed with another recessive pied.
May 8, 200619 yr no it doesn't, he has the spot becuase he is a pied. It doesn't matter what sort of pied you have all will have some form of spot on the back on the head. There is never any way to tell by looking at the bird what it might be carrying (spit for) They will all be split to recessive? Yes all will get one recessive pied gene from the mother but for them to show they need two gene. Daz is right you will also get some normal babies, if your dad is only a single factor pied, this means he has the one dominant pied gene and a normal gene that is hidden.
May 9, 200619 yr okay, lets see if I am getting this. No recessive pieds Some dominent pieds Some normal And in varying shades of green (unless both parents split to blue) Am I close?
May 9, 200619 yr Yes I know that clear flight is dominant and recessive pied is recessive, but when both of those mutations are present it results in a dark eyed clear as quoted by http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html#darkeyed "Dark-Eyed Clear The dark-eyed clear is actually a combination of recessive pied and clearflight pied. When these two mutations are both present, the budgie is has no markings or color. It is either pure yellow (if it is a yellow-based budgie) or pure white (if it is a white-based budgie). The dark-eyed clear's dark eyes never lighten with age, hence the name."
May 10, 200619 yr I took these pictures of the babies today, any thoughts on what they may end up looking like. Two of the chics already have the pied spot on their heads. Babe #1 Does he look like he is going to be yellow? Babe #1 See the spot thats a different color on his head Babe #2 His wing feathers are coming in super light, almost white...could he be white?? Babe#3 Cant see anything distinct on this little guy yet Babe #4 See the tiny dark spots on his shoulders and on top of his head no where else though weird
May 11, 200619 yr The parents are very pretty. okay, lets see if I am getting this. No recessive pieds Some dominent pieds Some normal And in varying shades of green (unless both parents split to blue) Am I close? You're close.. but it's too soon to say that there won't be recessive pieds. It is possible.. but Nanny would have to be split for it.. All of these babies are going to be split for recessive pied.. which means that someday if they were bred with a recessive pied (or another budgie split for recessive pied).. they could have recessive pied babies. They're all going to be split for clearwing as well.. and that works simularly. It's probably too early for me to tell but... Baby 1 looks like he will feather mostly like a normal green.. but there is a pied spot. Baby 2 looks like he *might* be blue. I don't see any yellow on him..... so it would be a longshot.. but both parents may be split for blue. Edited May 11, 200619 yr by HurdyBirdy
May 13, 200619 yr okay for some reason I was not able to get onto this website for the last 2 days...weird...anyhow... Here is Blue and Tweety's babes this morning...
