Posted May 5, 200619 yr Hi everyone. Tammy is very tame and has no fear of anything. He'll even try to go down and see what the dogs are eating. He has this habit of going into this biting frenzy when he is on my finger. He'll bite all over my hand and some hurt, though, usually he is biting so fast and furious that most don't. He'll flare his tail and just go for it. It's quite a little show he puts on. Fortunately, I have very tough skin so I'll just keep my hand there and wait for him to get tired. Now, is there a meaning to this? Does anyone have a little one that does this and figured out why?
May 5, 200619 yr sounds hormonal, has Tammy just started this behavior since spring has sprung or during a molt?
May 5, 200619 yr Poor you! That sounds like my conure coco (but as i've said before, there is 666 under the feathers somewhere!) I've never had a budgie do this. I am curious to see others replies.
May 5, 200619 yr My budgie Cyril has done this a couple of times but only to my boyfriend! I have no idea either.
May 6, 200619 yr sounds hormonal, has Tammy just started this behavior since spring has sprung or during a molt? He's only like 3 1/2 months. Isn't that kind of young for the juices to be flowing Poor you! That sounds like my conure coco (but as i've said before, there is 666 under the feathers somewhere!) I've never had a budgie do this. I am curious to see others replies. That's funny...I must have a quirky bird I noticed this morning that his tail flares when he is doing that "ark, ark" sound and bouncing around flapping his wings. Maybe that's how he releases pent up energy by sparring with my hand. He doesn't do it all the time. I think it's part of a routine. He's fun to watch, though, when he gets into that mood.
May 6, 200619 yr cheeky used to do the same thing when he was young. i just thought he was really excited! he grew out of it though.
May 6, 200619 yr 3 1/2 months is when they start to go through their first molt so no it is not too soon to be acting "stinky" Ignore the bitting, I know one member she would softy take her finger and push back the birds beak when he did it and it worked.
May 7, 200619 yr 3 1/2 months is when they start to go through their first molt so no it is not too soon to be acting "stinky" Ignore the bitting, I know one member she would softy take her finger and push back the birds beak when he did it and it worked. I do ignore it...I was just wondering what it could be. Does it mean he likes me or hates me? Actually, most of the time he is pretty sweet. It just blows me away when he goes into this mode.
May 7, 200619 yr No, he doesn't hate you! Buster goes through hormonal phases and does things like that. It'll pass after a while, just ignore it :offtopic:
May 7, 200619 yr Budgies don't know hate they know fear if they have been hurt. Hate is a human emotion not an animal emotion. If an animal doesn't like someone it is usually a bad experience that happened in it's past the reminds them of it. Like my rescued dalmation didn't like men with hats somewhere in his past he had a bad experience he didn't hate them. Saying that it is hormonal, and because he is molting or going to start ignore it and he will return back to normal. You can also give him more baths to help the molting, itch his head if he lets you and make sure he is getting 12 hours of darkness for bed.
May 15, 200619 yr My 'tiel used to do this only when he was on my shoulder. He'd be sitting there, all calm and sweet and then he'd go into his "killer bird" mode, full fledged mohawk, wings spread, feathers matted and then he'd attack the junk out of my shoulder. He did the hissing and everything! It never hurt and was HILARIOUS to watch. Maybe yours is doing the same? I think it was more of a playful thing than anything else as it was never caused by anything I could tell and it always happened spuratically. Bijou does the same thing kinda... He'll be sitting on my finger and he'll wipe his beak on my finger and I'll take my other finger and play with him. He'll bite all over and joust with me. Sometimes it hurts but almost always he's just play biting. It's a good thing you have tough hands though! :(Laughing out loud):
May 16, 200619 yr Haha (Laughing out loud). 3 1/2 months is not too young. My little Arkady was very active in that area at that age. Constantly flirting. He is such a hen's man. He is only 7months old now and has moved to third base with my 8-9month old girl. So age is no boundary. :(Laughing out loud):
