Posted May 4, 200619 yr okay, question for those with big cages like Shawna and flight type cages what do you cover them with to keep in dark inside? This is Pretty's first night and I put a sheet over it with a couple towels on the outside to get it dark in there. He is used to the darkness because in the small cage I didn't have an issue. I have seen the cage covers for the bigger cages they look awesome but are as much as the cage , so does anyone have any suggestions? sidenote: I will get pictures of him in his cage and the set up I promise.
May 5, 200619 yr I was using a queen size sheet but changed to a white shower curtain to let a little more light in (night frights). Lin- what is a doona?

May 5, 200619 yr i use my tweety Blanket for birdie because hes in my room its not really a comforter or a quilt its one of those odd blankets it feels like fabric or cotton of some sort but its recycled plastic or just plastic kind of like polar flece it works great to keep out the light from the TV in my room, if i didnt have a tv in my room he wouldnt be covered but thats what i use
May 5, 200619 yr Since I have both a serger and sewing machine was asked to make a cover for a big cage, put two sheets together and it worked out great. Easily washed as well.
May 5, 200619 yr Sorry Shawna! Thanks for sorting that out Karen. That old cultural divide at work again
May 5, 200619 yr I go to the fabric shop to get dark coloured polar fleece material cut to size of the cage.
May 5, 200619 yr I don't cover my cages. My birds are fine with out it. I hardly ever get night frights either(only ever had 2), probably because of the light coming in from the window.
May 5, 200619 yr Author Thank you all for your suggestions. Blankets make me nervous because I have read how budgies can get their nails caught if they are climbers, and I don't have a big enough one I don't think (Laughing out loud). Sheets don't provide enough darkness. I cover them at 8pm on the dot but it is still light here now (Laughing out loud). Maybe 2 sheets together though...(thinking outloud) I did find this one on e-bay what do you think? I e'd her and she said the x-large would fit for our cage, I also e'd her if it filters light good, waiting back for a response. But seeing this I like the idea of going to a fabric shop as suggested and seeing what I can do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting Thanks for everyone's views.
May 6, 200619 yr My little budgie, at 8:30pm, i put a towel over his cage, and then he knows to go to sleep. But i suppose it isn't needed, but it does quiet them down in the early mornings.
May 6, 200619 yr Author that is why I cover too, the minute the cover goes on Pretty hops to his sleeping area and he is quiet until I take it off in the AM. So he is not singing at 6 AM :ausb:
May 6, 200619 yr As soon as I get the cover out at night my two look at me and hop over to their usual perch. I don't hear anything then until I uncover them in the morning. As soon as the coer is taken off in the morning Charlie goes into a singing fit and he is so loud. :ygbudgie:
