May 3, 200619 yr it is very hard to tell you without a pictures , she sounds like a pied but not sure.
May 3, 200619 yr Author http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9776 that's what i'm thinking but aren't pieds supposed to have a white band on the chest or right below? grrrrr feeling stupid (Laughing out loud), HATE my camera!! Edited May 3, 200619 yr by lean2078
May 3, 200619 yr there are 4 different type of pieds, Pretty in my picture is a recessive pied and Merlin is a dominant pied with just the patch on his head and then there is the pieds with the band across their chest and then there is the double factor pieds that looks like recessives but end up getting a blue cere like the typical mutation. (Laughing out loud) I don't know all the correct terms but know how to describe them. You are talking about your yellow one in the second picture yes? On my screen she looks all yellow but if she has green on her then she may be a recessive or a double factor? I would say take pictures of the front and back and post for sure. Or someone else with a better eye will see it better then I.
May 3, 200619 yr Author I think better pictures would help LOADS (Laughing out loud) yeah i noticed on the picture she looks all yellow but she isn't she's got some green on her. Actually it almost looks like an olive color on her back almost her whole back is this color her neck to her head is yellow the markings that are normally one the head are very faint, her chest is mostly yellow, overall it's a very splotchy pattern overall i don't know that i like the look of her, not her color she's pretty in that aspect but she small in size her feathers aren't smooth like you'd expect a keets to be, iether she's still a young bird or because of the place and possibly food she just didn't grow, i know she's got to be at least a yr or two old, but here is my next question, my vet said she's fine just small BUT, i've been around budgies for 15 to 20 yrs and she just doesn't look right (feathers i mean) right belwo her wings she's almost a band look, it looks like there is a band around her waist right under the bottom of her wings cause the feathers are not bald but just looks like she's got something around the waist I really need to get better pics so you guys can help me vet couldn't find anything but the normal vet that is a bird vet no longer works there so i had to take her to a general vet ANYHOW the other thing is her cere is making me think she may not be a she, it looks more pinkish to me but there looks to be a bit of blue. I know bobob is a male he has a blue cere, and i know my albino is a female her's is fleshy colored but i'm not sure about honey, (yellow ones name) there is a white ring around the eyes but not real prodominant yet could this still be a young bird? I know they had a lot of budgies out there and am wondering if they mistook this one for a the other one, (talking about how old bird was etc) they only had these two left but i know they got this one and another one at the same time and the other one looked quite a bit like honey and it was an older bird and it died so i'm wondering if this isn't the baby they just got (baby not really right term young bird is better term)
May 3, 200619 yr There are 2 different dominant pieds, Dutch and Australian. It's the second one that normal has the band around the chest area. Both of these types can come in double or single factor and as Lovey said can look like a recessive. Recessive is when the colour is around the tummy, vent and start of tail area. Normally with patchy wing markings as well. The spot on the head is for dominate pieds. This page, that i wrote) has some pictures that might help you: http://geocities.com/nerwenfuzz_82/budgiemutations.htm It is meant to be on the main site but as of yet not put there. Actually it almost looks like an olive color on her back almost her whole back is this color her neck to her head is yellow the markings that are normally one the head are very faint, This sounds like she is opaline, this is where the edges of the feathers on the wings are the same colour as the body colour. Or what the body should be if there isn't any other mutation in play. I have a hen with green wing feathers but her body is only yellow, she is still an opaline, bucause the muation she has only works on the body not any where else. I think pictures of this 'band' your talking about wouldn't be good, it sure doesn't sond normal, can you find another avain vet? or find out where the one that worked there went to? Odd, you might have a younger bird and then s/he might be in the middle of a moult, the fact that Honey has rings in her eyes means we have a dominant pied on our hands. Iris rings show up around the 6 months mark. But don't worry about how strong it is, I have one 5 years and her's is only faint. Edited May 3, 200619 yr by Nerwen
