May 1, 200619 yr okay well diddent sit again 1 looks dead but is still breathing the other one is fine i really dont know what to dobut i am scared i may have to hand rear please can you tell me all i need to know and be prepared for like what to feed couse i dont have time to order hand rearing mix what tempreture the should be kept at how often i should feed them how much i should feed them how should i feed them how should keep them ware i should keep them what to watch out for and please tell me what else i will need to buy or anthing i have missed out on thank you thank you thank you smily what happened to the mum and dad? If you have egg and biscuit mix try a solution of 6 parts warm milk to 1 part mix. 35 deg C or there abouts every two hours until they won't take any more. tea spoon to the tip of the beak. You should see the crop start to fill. you should get a shoe box and line it with tissue paper and direct a bed lamp over it. Get a thermometer to make sure it's not too hot. Keep them some place dry and safe.. You have to decide that one. just make sure they are safe and warm. You need hand raising mix. You need a special spoon with a feeding syringe.
May 1, 200619 yr If you can't get the correct hand rearing mix you can use high protein baby cereal for an emergency substitute. Not sure of the exact temperature but I always use a heat pad and keep in a warm dry place with no drafts..I have actual boxes from the Arc with heat lamps built in but I have used cardboard boxes in an emergency with a heat pad in the bottom Until about 8/9 days old I feed every 2 hrs including through the night after that about every 3hrs but only through the day( From when I get up about 6am to my bed time about 11pm) once they get to 2 weeks they will only need to be fed every 4 hrs. You should always warm the food before giving it as food from their mothers wouldn't be cold. I always feed until the crop is full with a crop feeder (tube that goes right down) or a syringe. You'll need to weigh them regularly, once per day to make sure they are putting on weight. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice! Try not to worry yourself too much, if your going to help your birds you need to be calm and prepared so your doing all the right things by seeking help and getting prepared for the worst! Good on you!
May 1, 200619 yr Never thought of using a heat pad for keeping chicks warm. Is that the sort you buy for reptiles?? I have a home made brooder but I like the idea of the heat pad as well.
