April 30, 200619 yr It looks great Aaron. Heaps of flight space. The only suggestions I would have is maybe cover one or two sides more fully. I am thinking of winds and rain that may blow through and they have nowhere to shelter ( apart from lower levels) . Mostly they don't like to shelter on lower levels especially at night when they are roosting and the bad weather comes in. I think your birds are going to love the flight space they will have. How many birds do you hope to keep in there ? All budgies, right ? PS Tell Dad he deserves a medal. :bluebudgie: Oh, I forgot....also if you can't rig up a safety door to prevent escapes whilst entering try this idea....a couple of poles extending out from the roofline over the door end and a tent like set up with shadecloth....perhaps someone can sew it up for you like an extension and velcro the doorflaps. April 30, 200619 yr oh you wote back fast im going to have some tarp thats going to roll up and down on the back and half the sides so in the hot weather it can be rolled up and in the cool weather it can be put down. well im hopping to have 15 -20 in there maybe more but i dont want to over crowd them and im going to have some shade cloth on the in side of the door it will be fastened onto the top and magnets on the sides so it will be not be blowing around and yes all budgies Edited April 30, 200619 yr by aaron
April 30, 200619 yr Sounds like you have thought it out really well. Congratulations on the work you and Dad have done. It's going to be great. Room for twice that many comfortably as long as they have some varied perching and lots of it. :bluebudgie: Edited April 30, 200619 yr by budgiebird
April 30, 200619 yr Looks good. I would think some more branches going horizontal. Some of them in there look too vertical to be much help to the budgies to sit on.
April 30, 200619 yr hey thanks for the good comments and yes im trying to find some branches that are going to go right across the avairy which is 2 m i might put some more toys in there and hopfully they will play with them
April 30, 200619 yr well i should have it finished tomorrow and then i just have to look for some (only the good looking ones of course)maybe this week some time i will post more pictures when i have got them.
April 30, 200619 yr Wow! That looks fantastic! I can't wait to see some photos once the budgies have moved in.
April 30, 200619 yr it looks great I love your avairy, you have good suggestions for different things, have you thought of live trees for perching the potted one) Una has alot of live plants in her aviary she just posted a picture too.
April 30, 200619 yr Also thought I would mention Aaron, that my budgies absolutely adore their thick rope strung through the aviary. They even prefer it to wooden or natural perches. Something to consider.
May 1, 200619 yr hey that a good idea i like that rope. i just have to look for plants that will live in pots and in the shade and aso go look for some longer perches thanks for the comments guys.
May 1, 200619 yr Great looking aviary you have there.. My birds also love to perch on thick ropes too, although they don't seem QUITE as keen as BB's budgies .. I have a few pots in the aviary that just contain Natural Grasses, they grow really lush and the budgies love the fact they can munch on it, and after it goes to seed it dies off so i chop it all back into little stalks and in a week or so it starts all over again Also i love and have planted a few different types of Heleconias and Gingers.. They also grow quite lush and the flowers are amazing... Cheers  Una
May 1, 200619 yr Maybe you could bolt branches onto the mesh so that you have branches coming out of the walls. Sort of like those branches that you buy in pet shops that have a nut bolt and washer on one end.
May 1, 200619 yr Whatever plants you put in the aviary, please check them against a toxic plants list. Also some plants look great and are safe too but budgies eat them. My palms are absolutely shredded the budgies love them so much. Lin suggested once to put safe plants in, in pots and change them every so often to give the plants time to recover before going back in again.
May 1, 200619 yr hey una your avairy looks great it looks very natural i like how you have a branch down the center of the avairy held up by rope. and yes i will start to plant some plants in some pots as soon i get some money i just went to the hardware store and bought some tarp and some other little things and it all added up to break my bank just have to wait to i get paid again should have some more pictures soon.i have seen those branches in the shops the ones that have the bolts and nuts on them they are very expensive i can make them my self i think and again thanks for the advice Edited May 1, 200619 yr by aaron
May 1, 200619 yr Hey Aaron, Your aviary looks great, there is no way I could have waited for 4mths for it to be finished..(Laughing out loud).. I decided on a wednesday that I needed an aviary and by that weekend my baby's were flying around there new home..I bought one of those plastic fly veils strip things and cut it in half and hung it on the inside of the door, its worked so far. I cant wait to see yours when its finished. Budgiebird and Una, I thought I had too much in my aviary but looking at your pictures maybe I don't have enough "toys" in there..hehe. I have already started on the plans for my extensions to the aviary cause I know when mine start breeding I'm not going to be able to get rid of any of the babys...
May 1, 200619 yr hello thats good that you got your so quick it seems that it has taken for ever.and you must put some picture of your avairy on here soon aswell i have to see it it sound good and yes picture are coming soon just got to buy the birds now
May 1, 200619 yr http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/ib6ub...037_450x337.jpg I must admit I did cheat with mine, It was a small garden shed (6ft X 4ft) that was at my partners house that he didn't use anymore..well not exactly that he didn't use it, more like I wanted a aviary more then I thought he needed the shed..hehe
May 9, 200619 yr fantastic job aaron. I cant wait to see the finished product. I also do as said before, i have potted plants that i switch out to give them a break. i have hybiscus, pampus grasses and bottle brush. i will have to try the ginger too!
