Posted April 24, 200619 yr There's something I've been wondering about Pepsi, who passed away at the weekend. Sometimes when she was standing on my finger & we were playing, or I'd be talking to her, all of a sudden she would go all stiff (it's a bit hard to explain but too look at pepsi from the side when this happened, she looked like a kind of`v` shape) I could literaly run my finger from her head, all the way along her body to the end of her tail, & she wouldn't move a muscle. Was this pepsi trying to be frisky with me Her & I did have a very stong bond!, she'd rather interact with me than with anyone else in the house, or even my other budgie, cassie.
April 24, 200619 yr It doesnt sound to me like pepsi was being frisky with you. How did pepsi pass away?
April 24, 200619 yr Author It doesnt sound to me like pepsi was being frisky with you.How did pepsi pass away? She lost her fight against megabacteria at the weekend, her little heart didn't want to give up just yet but I couldn't bear to see her suffering anymore. She's flying free now & no longer in any pain
April 24, 200619 yr do you think something startled her and she was looking around? or maybe because of the pain she would stand up straight up and it would relieve digestive pain? This may be an answer only Pepsi will ever know.

If I understand you correctly...it sounds like something my grandmother could get our parakeet to do. Pepsi was doing this when she was feeling okay, right? I was about eight years old at the time. My grandmother would talk to Tammy and before you know it Tammy would pin her eyes...and she would go into this "V" head and tail up...I would laugh like crazy. It was hilarious to see. My grandmother had this hoarse voice and Tammy just loved it! I would ask my grandmother to make Tammy do her "funny thing". It was like Tammy would become mesmerized by nanna's voice :-)
April 25, 200619 yr Author That's it exactly, & yep it's something pepsi did quite a few times during her life so I don't think it was linked to her being in pain with megabacteria. I think another budgie of mine, snowy, also did it. Maybe they were mesmerized by my voice

I haven't seen that since Tammy died back in "64".
April 29, 200619 yr Haha (Laughing out loud). ~That position is called the"U shape and is what they do to signal to males that they want to mate. Because she has ducked down low to allow the male to climb on and put her tail up so that it doesn't get in the way of mating. I think Pepsi wanted to have babies with you!! Yes she was being frisky and by stroking her like that you were probably encouraging it. :(Laughing out loud):
