Posted April 20, 200619 yr About a month ago, I THOUGHT Bobby was moulting... There was a bit of fluff hanging around and he had little spikes all over his head - Well, it has started! I have never seen so many feathers. He is losing tail feathers, wing feathers, head feathers, his little body looks like he's going bald! Obviously this is irritating him as he is constantly preening. But now he can't fly very well... He doesn't have much lift and he seems to flutter more that fly - does anyone else's budgies have this problem when they moult???
April 20, 200619 yr Pretty never molted that heavy but he is having a very long slow molt so mine is the opposite. I wish I could help you on that.
April 20, 200619 yr A couple of aviary budgies molt very heavily. they look like echidna when they molt, no seriously! all those pins sticking up everywhere!! and yeah, for a few days they generally don't fly too well, so they kinda just climb all over the aviary with the occasional flutter to a higher perch or something.
April 20, 200619 yr My Tweety had a bad moult about a month ago. She lost lots of feathers and she looked terrible - especially around her eyes. She now has them all back and looks beautful!!! She was clipped so didn't really affect her flying.
April 20, 200619 yr my casper had a fairly heave moult recently too, and it was a little bit lop-sided, so his balance was all over the place and he couldn't fly too well either, but his tail and wing feathers have all grown back evenly, and his spiky face is almost back to its normal handsome self!
