Chewing Through Wooden Perches

Is it okay for my birds to do this? I have a male budgie who is 3+ years old and a female budgie who is a few months old and both of them adore chewing at their wooden mirror perches, so much so that the youngest budgie has almost chewed right through one of the rungs. I hope this is okay and it is not doing them any harm. I'd like to buy something else for them to chew. What do you suggest?

My birds all chew anything that I put in that's wood...perches, ladders and boxes so don't worry it is quite normal for lots of birds, in the wild it's very common as well. Anything I put in is safe and thoroughly washed beford they get anywhere near it. Do you have cuttlefish, mineral and/or calcium blocks available as well, they are beneficial to their health and my birds love them...although they go through stages of when and which they prefer. The other things my birds enjoy chewing is vegetables...I give them a large range of organic vegies, they love carrots, celery, brocoli, sweet corn cobs. They also love apple, watermelon, grapes, banana...(fruit in moderation as it has so much sugar, natural sugar but still not good in large amounts) I hang bunches of parsley spayed with water and they love it....sitting in it and munching out! I think that if you provide some of these things they'll lay off the wood! :):D

Pop a bit of eucalyptus branch in, they'll love that.

Mine love it, they also love bottlebrush and grevillea :)

All mine adore the bottlebrush branches and leaves!! they hate the flowers though for some reason.. hehe..

I give the branches a good wash before putting them in... :)

Just as well the my hubby makes all the wooden ladder for the budgies otherwise I would have spent hundreds of dollars replacing wooden ladders!! They go through them like there's no tomorrow!! (Laughing out loud)
