Posted April 13, 200619 yr How do your budgies act when someone comes over they really don't know or see alot? When my sister or my neices (they are 14 and 15yrs) and Pretty is out, I will have him hop on my finger and then try and do a transfer but he does the ack ack and flies off. I realize this is perfectly normal, to him they are strangers. I wanted to find out do your birds warm right up to them or not? What are their personalities?
April 13, 200619 yr Blinkie is highly suspicious of strangers. Even the sweet little girls that live across the street scare him, their teeny tiny fingers are just soooo threatening! :(Laughing out loud): He will usually settle down after a while and give them the joy of having a budgie on their finger. Ozzie is bomb-proof, you can pop him on anyone's finger and he'll just sit and stare, he even lets them pet his wings and tummy (he'll grow out of this i'm sure).
April 13, 200619 yr Mine are pretty good with strangers, wary but they'll step up for them cautiously. Piper is, of course, fearless as with most things. I normally have to pry her off of people because they're not used to her kitten-like ways of playing with humans. She likes to nibble at toes, chase shoe laces (both bad because those are normally on the floor) and the way she greets people is by flying straight to their heads. I find it cute, Piper finds it fun, and non-bird people usually don't know what to think.
April 13, 200619 yr Author :(Laughing out loud): I had a total visual of Piper and trying to rip her off your finger, and the people who are non bird people looking at you like HELP ME NOW, this little thing is stuck to me :(Laughing out loud): Edited April 13, 200619 yr by lovey
April 13, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud). That's pretty much how it goes. She thinks she owns EVERYTHING and that includes people. If I'm wearing socks and sitting down trying to do something, she'll pounce my foot and attack the sock. No matter how much I wave my foot around, she hangs on. She also likes to chase fingers, especially typing ones. She's kind of like a guard bird I guess. In her own playful way... (Laughing out loud)
April 13, 200619 yr Most of my birds dont like me so of course they dont like strangers but they go about their business pretty much as usual. Barnslee will sit on anyones finger or anywhere I put her in fact and stay put. Noodle on the other hand is everyones best friend. Someone came to buy a fireplace off us and he flew to the man and started asking him what he was doing. The man was petrified and I had to go and retrieve Noo hehe. I think Beano is a people budgie - for now in any case.
April 13, 200619 yr Author OMG I am laughing so hard about Noos the picture : because he used it in the right content too. So what happened to the fireplace guy?
April 13, 200619 yr bobby will fly from their finger to their shoulder, but if he stays there he wont talk to them....he'll just look at them and wonder "who is this STRANGE person???" after a while, though, he'll start to talk to them
April 15, 200619 yr Boris likes everyone & would fly to anyone. I keep her door closed when my sister visits though as my sister gets 'frightened' of flying birds and swipes at them. Boris' grandfather was a very friendly bird until my sister visited and when he went to fly to her to say hello she swiped at him & knocked him away. He was never the same and became aggressive.
April 15, 200619 yr My birds in the aviary usually hush at the approach of strangers but will continue about their business after they're sure they are still safe :(Laughing out loud): Jack loves strangers.....until they try and scratch him :hap:
April 22, 200619 yr My two are nervous of strangers but if people start t talk to them quitely then they soon settle down. When I had SB though anyone that came into the room SB would start talking to and he wanted to be picked up as he couldn't fly. He just hated to be ignored and would shout louder and louder until someone took notice.
April 22, 200619 yr Mine hate other people. Silance reigns until we take a few steps back. The friendist is Marine I think, willing to come over and inspect a finger in the hopes of treats...after a while that is.
