Posted April 6, 200619 yr hi veryone just wanted some peoples opions on the aviary i might be building, and any changes that you might think are usefull. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v437/ken...birdhousemn.jpg Here is a drawing i have done of it tonight, it is a copy of one that i found on the internet. But not having £140.00 to spend on it i thought i would have a go at building it. the size is 48'' (122cm) long 38'' (96.5cm) high and not sure on the depth yet could be 18'' (46cm) or 24'' (61cm). Now the one on the internet had a door in the center as mine, door size is 10''x10'' or 25.5x25.5. is this the best place for the door or do you think there should be one on both ends?. The tray in the bottom sits back into the frame work and a cover is lifted on the front of the cage to reach it. as in the drawing. I think i will put a solid back on the cage as well, as the cage will be made so that it comes apart fairly easily this will not be a problem to clean it i think! maybe even put some sort of laminate as the back panel. anyway let me know what you think, i would rather change the design now rather than think after i have made it 'if only i had thought of that' kevin
April 7, 200619 yr The door seems quite small. You want to beable to reach all areas of the avairy, so make a door about perhaps, 2 foot tall by 1 and a half foot wide in the middle. Then you can put smaller doors on both ends of the cage. And some times little 6 inch by 6 inch doors can be handy for food dishes.
April 7, 200619 yr thanks for the replys . i was thinking of putting two smaller doors on either end as well, i dont think it would be possible to reach the whole of the cage with just the front door. on materals i take it pine is okay as long as its not been treated with any thing? mesh, now theres a question, my thought was galvanised and then paint it , or even ungalvasnised and then paint it safe enough ? but what type of paint ? kevin
