Hi everyone, just joined to day and spent most of it reading all the info.. and wow there is alot.

I have had budgies before..... but not one with this colouring, can some one tell me what he is.

I tried to take different angles of Buddie, while he was out enjoying some free flying time.

Hi, welcome!

Your bird is beautiful! So unusual (at least compared to what I usually see around where I live). As for the mutation... I have no idea

I'm sure someone will enlighten us both before too long. :D

buddie is so adorable

sorry, i'm useless with colors, (Laughing out loud)

Hi,

he is a dilute sky yellow face type II.

He's very cute.. dilute yellowface is what I think as well. His beak looks a bit odd in the second picture.. is it just the picture though?

CUTIE PIE HE IS!!! ;)

I think hes a dilute aswell...kinda like Shawna's young male called Sylvester...as her for pics of him, and compare them.... :)

Kirby :)

He definately looks like my Sylvester who is a dilute YF2. Does he possilbly have scaly face - his beak looks a little off in the second picture. There are lots of pictures of Sylvester on the board, especially in the budgie pictures section.

I think Dilute But I'm not seeing any signs for a yellowface. There isn't a hint of blue around the legs or neck that woul lead to that muation.

I think Buddie is just a normal green dilute.

As the others have asked is he beak okay? It's the first think i noticed it looks as if the bottom bit has been broken off. Plus it doesn't look shiny and smooth which is why others are asking about scaly face.

Yes it does look a bit like scaley face, I just finished treating my budgie for it. It doesn't take long to treat (about a month) and the medicine is fairly cheap.

He is very cute by the way.

Thank you everyone on your replies and the warm welcomes

I will get his beak checked out, I did wonder on his beak if there was something wrong and forgot to mention it, so pleased your eager eyes spotted it for me.

I will look out for photos of Sylvester to compare him.

So glad I found this place

Take care

Pixie

Hi Pixie and welcome to the forum We already have A Pixie but with an extended name.

Nerwen I think your right and was going to call a light green dilute... but a dilute could cause a normal green to look light green so I think i'll go with yours :P

I do agree with Nerwen when she said that there are no real signs pointing to yellowface…. And I have a guess as to what mutation he really is, so here goes my theory…

Light Green Greywing.

Why? Well, I have had birds like yours over the years, and I still have one in my flock. Here he is

I have seen descriptions in some sites and books about the Light Green Greywing, and descriptions like “sea green”, “young eucalyptus leaves” or “Young beechtree leaves” keep coming up when authors try to describe this color. It seems to be a mix of a very diluted green and a very diluted blue put together.

For example in the site Budgerigars Galore they are described like this:

Budgerigars Galore

Mask

Buttercup yellow, ornamented by 6 evenly-spaced, large round, grey spots; the outer 2 being partially covered by the base of the light violet cheek patches.

General body colour

Back, rump, breast, flanks and underparts bright grass-green diluted to 50% of a normal lightgreen's body colour.

Markings

On cheeks, back of head, neck and wings grey, midway between black and zero.

Primary wing flights

Grey with a minimal yellow edge.

Primary tail feathers

Grey with a bluish tinge.

The same description appears in the World Budgerigar Organization’s site:

World Budgerigar Organization

And in Mr. Ghalib Al-Nasser’s site you can find a very interesting article stating reasons why the greywing is so many times confused with dilutes.

Here are some links to fotos posted by Shawna showing another budgie of this kind:

And here are some links to photos posted by Budgiebird that show another one (this one I’m not certain about because his mask patches are not consistent with the descriptions)

Is my theory right? You tell me…

LusoPeriquito your stunning boy is a yellowface type two.

The confusing thing is “sea green” is also used to explain the colour of YF's too.

Looking again if the bird is light green then greywing would fit.

Yes I would agree that Lusoperequito's bird was a YF2 as he has blue around his rump and lower belly

Lusoperequito your bird is stunning as are the other photos you linked too.

Buddie seems more green, can't really see blue in him..

He's a happy chappy settled in well and loves his free flying times.

Many thanks to you all for your help in his colouring

There is definitely space for confusion!!

If my memory isn’t failing, I’ve had him for 2 or maybe 3 years, and this year I decided to breed my budgies again (I had stopped for some time now). So I decided to pair him with this girl:

I haven’t got a better picture of her.

If he really is a Yellowface Type II, 50% of the offspring should be Yellowface… can’t wait to see…

He keeps visiting her!

I’ve just inspected the nest and can tell you that there was a birth today!! There are 3 other eggs, yet at list one of them seems “clean”.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed because she’s very young and has never had babies before.

:)

ooh YAY They look good together. Dark eyed clear girl is so cute.
