My New Budgie Wont Eat

Featured Replies

i bought a new female budgie yesterday and i havent seen it eat yet what should i do?

Does she have any other symptoms? Being brand new she may be very shy to eat in front of you, I would observe her throughout the day today, if she doesn't eat make an appointment with the avian vet.

Believe it or not this is quite normal but if it persists then you should get her to the vet as budgies need to eat a lot as they have a high metabolism.

The chances are she is shy and just reacting to her new surroundings. What are her droppings like?

I would suggest that you hang a bit of millet spray up to try and tempt her (most budgies really like this). Try to keep her in a quiet place that is as stress free as possible and speak slowly and quietly to her, no pushing fingers through bars or getting her to 'perfom'!

Just as another suggestion, one of my budgies would kill for basil, maybe try clipping some to her cage.

Let us know how you get on.

are you sure? are there now husks in the dish? If not then do as Natalie said and add some millet or sprinkle some food on the bottom of the cage, they seem to find that easier at the start then the dish full of food.

good news i just saw my bird eat thanks thanks for all u you guyses help

:( And you have 2 budgies, one of them just started to eat, you want to breed, the female is too old, again, I am sorry but there are too many inconsistencies in your posts and you should not be breeding. :rip:
:P Sailorwolf, this gentleman has 3 posts, all close together that have conflicting information and different questions being asked so I was just trying to determine that he has all in order and whether he should be considering breeding at this point in time, just looking out for the budgies. :D

:ausb: And I have not been on here for 3 days but I still maintain this gentlemen has issues with feeding, training and older females that should be resolved before he should consider breeding. :)
