Posted April 2, 200619 yr If any of you have any experience or information on tumors (specifically, hard masses on the abdomen) please share. I've found one on Pippin. I'm not certain that it is a tumor but I don't know what else it could be. It is very large compared to him and very hard to the touch. There is a little dried blood on the feathers near that area but he hasn't been actively bleeding. I'm think he may have irritated it during the night somehow, I don't know. On top of this, Piper has pale yellow, fairly large droppings. I've read this can be related to the pancreas but that's all I know. Things are obviously not well here though I don't think the two issues are related. I'd elaborate more but I'm exhausted. Both birds see the vet Tuesday but the waiting is really hard. I hate that the vet is so far away. If you have any information about either of these things please let me know. If you can find links and such that would be great too. I'm working so much lately that I hardly have time. I've been searching when I get the time but I haven't found much. Keep Pip and Piper in your thoughts please. I'm really worried about the both of them.
April 2, 200619 yr oh Terri I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope they are both okay. I havn't heard about either before. My book on health is waiting to be collected I'm hoping to get it tommorrow and if I do I will look these up for you.
April 2, 200619 yr Hugs Terri, I can imagine how you feel - been there before with my other pets, and the waiting is horrible. okay, not being a vet I did do some looking up, found some articles doesn't mean this is what either bird has but worth reading. There was also a great post in the health section where someone's bird had a lump but it was already large and open - and what they did for treatment. You may want to see if you can find that. Here are the articles: (for the lump) http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cl...&articleid=2755 I doubt this but the bird can get yellow stool per this article http://www.multiscope.com/hotspot/psittacosis.htm Go down to dropping involving the urinary track http://www.netpets.com/birds/reference/laf...f_dropping.html I could probably search on and on but until you see the vet that is when you will know the real answer. Try not to stress yourself (like I know it is impossible for you) but focus on the good, positive and it will be okay. You are a good mom Terri...keep us updated. Possible Goiter:
April 2, 200619 yr Thanks for the info, lovey. I know it's impossible to figure this out myself, I just wish I had a clue. The waiting is awful.
April 3, 200619 yr Oh no! I really hope both Pippin and Piper are okay. Be sure to let us know any news as soon as you can.
April 3, 200619 yr Every post I find that covers this ends in the owner not coming back to update. Or else I'm just not finding the updates. I had a closer look at the growth on Pippin this morning and it's so hard and huge and black and awful. He was even favoring one of his feet a bit. So much at once, it's really getting to me. I hate waiting, I hate going to work every day and not being able to talk about it because people will just laugh and call me crazy. I'm not ready to lose anymore birds, I've lost enough. I don't know how I can let yet another one go so soon. First Pixie, then Peru. I know there's no such thing as being ready for something like that, but it just feels so wrong for this to be happening to a little baby who has barely begun to live. At least Piper seems to be doing okay. She's in a cage on her own and I've been watching her closely.
April 3, 200619 yr Oh Terri no not your little baby and no way Piper. I know this is probably not possible but is there anyway you can get a picture. Is the lump on the outside Im guessing it is. The lump Tobi had was on her lower tummy but was on the inside. Thing is now she is ill again the lump is back but the vet doesnt know what it is. I dont think Pippins is that though. When do you get the results? My thoughts are with you all.
April 3, 200619 yr Hugs, Terri, I can understand the whole telling someone and they think you are nuts. You are in my thoughts
April 3, 200619 yr I'll get a picture in a couple hours when I uncover them. It's on the outside on the very lower part of his abdomen. Kind of above the vent but more to the left... hard to explain. It's just one thing after another after another after another. Every time something like this happens it has to come down like a landslide. Every time. I can't just have ONE problem to deal with, it's got to be several all at once. One day they're all okay, the next, Piper and Pippin are not well and the car needs to be fixed. I just got word the car won't even be finished. We've taken our cars to this place for years because they're the only "honest" mechanics in town and NOW of all times, they, for the FIRST time, can't do it today. Why do these things always happen to me like this?? I've already told my dad that I'm driving the stupid car to Evansville tomorrow whether or not the brakes get fixed. If he's that concerned, he can let me drive his instead. I can't wait any longer, three days was too long. I am so exhausted from work and babysitting and worrying I could scream. April 3, 200619 yr Scream ahead nobody will will notice the difference they will just think its Molly hehe. Seriously though I know how your feeling when they are sick. Im going through it too right now as you know. I hope this day goes super quick for you and the vet can do something for Pips lump. Are Pipers poops still yellow?
April 3, 200619 yr I just checked on Piper (she's separated from the others) and her poops are 100% normal again. Maybe it was a false alarm. I'll be watching her closely but my main concern now is for Pippin. I know he won't be better when I uncover him later but I wish it was that simple. Maybe with Piper it was something she ate. Someone suggested it might have been from a toy or something. I don't know. But I'm glad she's not doing the weird poops anymore. I can only hope it stays that way. It was odd to see such weird things come out of a budgie that is, otherwise, perfectly healthy-looking and at a good weight and everything. I'll get the picture of Pip's lump soon. I hope my neice doesn't wake up before then. I wish someone else would watch the kids today, I'm just not up for it at all.
April 3, 200619 yr oh thats awful terri I hope Piper and Pip are going to be okay - I'm sure they will be! Let us know what the vet says! :hugs:
April 3, 200619 yr :ausb: I can understand how distressing this is for you, take a deep breath, we pray they both are okay and take care of yourself too.
April 3, 200619 yr My Candys poops are never normal Terri but that is normal for him if you know what I mean. Barnslee had yellowish ones the other day, it only lasted a couple of days but cant think what she could have eaten different. I have added a new supplement to her food maybe it was that. Has Piper had anything different? I wish it was tomorrow or the day after and you are back from the vets. It must be horrid for you. This probably isnt the place to say this but I will. Do you find yourself checking the floor of the cages before you uncover them. I am doing it all the time with Tobi and its not good for me at all.
April 3, 200619 yr I do. I think it's natural, you just start expecting the worst because they're so small and can go so fast and without warning. It doesn't help that Piper likes napping on the floor of her cage (always has). You'd think I would stop panicking by now from seeing her there but I still do most of the time. I hope Tobi gets better soon too. It's so scary to see something so small having a hard time. I wish there was more we could do for them.
April 3, 200619 yr Thanks Terri and likewise. Please let us know what the vet says tomorrow. I will be praying for little Pippin, he doesnt deserve this. Fingers tightly crossed. Good Luck.
April 3, 200619 yr the book I got does list anything like this it's more about what to do to protect your bird from infectious diseases. There was only one that spoke of yellow-green droppings but it was a sudden death disease which doesn't sound like what Piper has if her poop is back to normal. Fingers crossed that both are okay. I didn't find things about the lump just about the fatty tumour.
April 4, 200619 yr I'll be leaving in less than three hours (gotta allow over an hour to get there) but I'm not feeling very optimistic. Thanks so much for all the well-wishes though. Hopefully I will have good news later.
