Breathing Problems.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i'm sorry to be posting on this board again! Cheeky seems to be having a bit of trouble breathing. When i listen to his chest i can hear a clicking noise and he gets really puffed out when he flies. He is still really chirpy, eating and drinking normally and still runs about with his toys. I've got an appointment with the vet this afternoon but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what could be wrong??

Thanks again!

ali

Sounds like a respiratory infection to me. Good job that you are taking him to the vets. He will probably be given a course of antibiotics. I hope he fights it off good and quick.

Thanks. I'm really worried about giving him more antibiotics as he has just finished a 3 week course for diarrhea. i suppose i'll just need to see what the vet says. thanks again.

Oh poor Cheeky. The vet will know best - what time do you take him. Please let us know what happens - we love this little old man.

hi guys, just back from the vet - its not good news. The vet noticed his tummy is really swollen and thinks he may have a tumour. He has been kept in the vets probably over the weekend to do some tests. I just can't stop crying - it was so horrible having to leave him.

I'll try and let you know what his test results are.

Sorry to hear that Cheeky. I'm sure the vets will do everything they can for him. <<< hugs>>>

Oh my goodness no it cant be. I hope they find out its something else. Im so sorry Ali - I really feel for you and your little man. Keep us updated please.

hey, he's doing okay I think. They have started him on antibiotics and he's made it through the night which is good. Will give them a call this afternoon and get an update. Still waiting for his test results to come back but they are keeping him in until monday. I just hope he doesn't die in the vets thinking i've abandoned him. Its just horrible!

Oh my thoughts are going to be with you both over the weekend. Did you take a favourite toy in for him - that might cheer him up a bit.

yeah he's got his yellow ball with him so that should keep him happy. thanks very much i'll let you know how he gets on.

Oh no. :hap: I really really hope it's not a tumour.

hiya, just a quick update. the people at the vets are really pleased with him. he has started running about the bottom of the cage and eating some food which is good. he is being tube fed just now does anybody know what that means?? they did a crop test and a poop smear and couldn't find any bacteria but they are continuing with the antibiotics for the skin irritation round his bottom. The vet is going to reassess him on monday so ill let you all know how he gets on.

thanks very much for all the well wishes. you guys are great :ausb:

Tube feeding is when they get a really thin tube and put it down his throat into his crop. It's how sick birds are fed.

As long as it's being done by a professional it doesn't hurt the budgie at all. :ausb:

:D I have helped hold the birds at the Wildlife Shelter while it is being done, they don't like it but it doesn't hurt, it is over quickly and ensures they are getting all the nutrition they need. :ausb:
