Red Around Cere, Brown Wing Tips, Brown Poop?

Featured Replies

I've noticed that Daffodil has something red on the bottom of her cere. I was looking at her closely today and also noticed that her wings tips seem to have almost a brownish stain colour to them. And there is definately a difference in poops. Some poop is a lot more brown/red than the other poop which is more black. She is still in the quarantine cage with Puddin'.

Does this sound worrysome? She is so showing no other signs of illness. And Puddin' looks fine - no red anywhere

And wings (Brown might be hard to see but it is on tips of wings).

I would be worried yes, and I would go to the vet, just my opinion.

I'm going to take the four new birds to the vet. Maybe all 8 if I can get a package deal :). I want to get their wings clipped and get them checked before I put them in with Tweety, Sylvester, Tazzy and Wylie.

I think I figured out what the stuff is on Daff's wings - there is a pink calcium perch in the cage. She spends a lot of time on it. It has a powdery coating, and I bet that is rubbing off on her wings. Phew!!!!

I also misted all the birds down today. I noticed a big improvement in the stuff around Daff's cere. Maybe it was just dirt.

I'll find out for sure when they go to the vet! I know there our vet specializes in poultry so hopefully they'll know about budgies too.

Haha! Did you know that when we were at the vet the other day he was telling me about some people who took their budgie in cause it turned pink and they were worried! It was the calcium perch! :(Laughing out loud):

I hope the cere's nothing to worry about...

she probably is rubbing her beak on there too (Laughing out loud), good eye Shawna.

thats too funny about the perch

i would be concerned with the poo though

good luck at the vet

Is she eating the pink calcium perch that could possibly be causing the reddish poop.

I have seen her chewing on the perch. The cere has really cleared up in the last two days. Can there nares get blocked with dirt or something and cause irritation or inflammation?

As for the poop, I thought that she might be choosing different food than Puddin too - there is flax seed in the food mix and little black balls (not sure what they are), as well as fruits and veggies.

:D My yellow lovie, Phoebe, turns green from time to time if she is chewing on her green block, she looked particularly ghoulish at Halloween. I guess if one gets these far out colors then they know it isn't a problem with their bird, OMG, are the dyes safe, guess so or a large and reputable company wouldn't make them. Hopefully that is the reason for the poop as well. :P
