1/2 lb dates

1/2 lb dried apricots

1/2 lb dried figs

1/2 lb mixed dried fruit

2 cups chopped walnuts

1/2 cup cranberry & raisin mix

1 tsp sesame seeds or hulled buckwheat

Put dates, figs, walnuts, apricots, mixed dried fruit, raisins, & cranberries together in a food grinder. Grind. Scoop out and shape into small balls. Roll in seeds, buckwheat, or finely chopped nuts. Refrigerate portions until ready to feed.

Optional: try mixed nuts or pistachio nuts in place of walnuts.

This recipe is very tasty, but messy to make. I keep a batch in the refrigerator and take out what I need, rolling it eather seeds or chopped nuts.

Sounds like fun Anna - would they stay together if you held them on those veggie skewers or fall to bits. I would want my budgies to eat one in one go as Tobi got ill doing this with other treats.

I havent made any of them yet, i got the book yesterday. there are some great recipes in it, so i wanted to share some of them!

I would think you could roll the balls as small as you want them to be. Have fun!
