Posted March 5, 200619 yr This is where I (and mum) scrub all the walls, perches, floors, wire with nappysan. Then we do it all again with disinfectant. Then we scrub the floors with bicarb & vinegar. Then wash the floor again with disinfectant. I spray the interior with insect spray & air it out for a couple days. I put the birds back yesterday (they are usually out of the aviary for a week). My dad cut down a Gum tree branch which I have used - I think it looks great! There are some good flight shots too - the last one I reckon is spectacular!
March 5, 200619 yr very nice...i love seeing other peoples aviaries....gives me plenty of ideas...are the birds in here budgies?
March 6, 200619 yr :ausb: Wonderfully clean but I see you have Rosey Bourkes in there as well, my budgies bit off part of my Rosey's toe and always try to kill her through the cage bars, do they all actually get along? :grbud:
March 6, 200619 yr thank-you phoebe....I thought there was a strange new mutation of budgie or my monitor was acting up....(Laughing out loud).. :ausb: Wonderfully clean but I see you have Rosey Bourkes in there as well, my budgies bit off part of my Rosey's toe and always try to kill her through the cage bars, do they all actually get along? :grbud:
March 6, 200619 yr :grbud: Nope, don't think any budgie breeders have come up with pink budgies yet but glad to be of service. :ausb:
March 6, 200619 yr Great Shots Karen and a good idea to Autum Clean. I'll be doning mind this week end. :grbud: Whats even better is I remember the aviary, it looks good with the gum leaves Edited March 6, 200619 yr by daz
March 6, 200619 yr I'm jealous that it's cool enough for you guys to do a job like that! It's our first heat wave for the season - and it should be autumn already! :grbud:
March 6, 200619 yr :(Laughing out loud): we had a cold snap with all the rain. Normally it would still be hot. The cage looks great Karen. Bet the leaves didn't last long. Edited March 6, 200619 yr by Nerwen
March 6, 200619 yr Thanks for the positive comments guys. The leaves are mostly still there, the only place they have been destroyed are in the budgie cage where I am trying to make a pair of Kakariki bond so I can breed them - the leaves lasted all of 2 hours! I actually don't have any Rosa Bourkes anymore. I have normals, creams & cream splits. In the aviary the Bourkes & Budgies get along as I don't try and breed the Bourkes. If I want the Bourkes to breed I move them to a private breeder. Otherwise they get along fine, I've found it's mainly the female budgies who see a nesting box who pick on the Bourkes. No breeding = very little problems, the young budgies & the Bourkes quite often play together. With all the greenery in there now the sole Yellow Crown Kakariki Hen can hide & not be seen. I estimate the leaves & branches will last up to a week which is okay as my father has to chop down the new growth from the power lines. He is going to do the cutting once a week so the birds will have fresh greens for about another month and a half.
April 5, 200619 yr Karen just asking here rather than another post. but what sort of disinfectant do you use to clean the aviary. I'm trying to find out what would be safe to use on mine.
April 8, 200619 yr Nerwen I just use a home brand eucalyptus disinfectant, I dilute about a third of a 2 litre bottle into a bucket of water. NappySan is an excellent disinfectant too. I actually do nappysan first then redo it with the home brand disinfectant. I am just being over cautious though.
April 8, 200619 yr Nerwen I use Chorahexidine. It's the disinfectant that is used in Hopitals. Diluted it is safe for the birds but not on the germs. I can get as much of it as I need. :bluebudgie: You can have some if you want.
April 8, 200619 yr Daz you are alwasy so sweet and willing to help anyone :fear "home brand eucalyptus disinfectant" anything that not eucalyptus smelling okay?? :(Laughing out loud): I'm not a fan of that smell. Since asking this I have found a cage cleaning in two pet shops (in a small bottle though :bluebudgie: ) and my health book says .... :(Laughing out loud): I just looked it up again and it's Chorahexidine! also called Aviclens, hibiclens, hibitane and Nolvosan.
April 9, 200619 yr (Laughing out loud) one of the few natural fragrances . . . I only use eucalyptus because I enjoy that fragrance. Lavender is also good & cheaper than avicleans.
