I would call avian vet today, he sounds very sick.

Yes, make an appointment, it sounds quite bad. Good luck, let us know how it goes please.

i cant ,closest vet is 60 miles away and its nighttime here now.

any ideas what could be wrong, maybe its a puberty phase!

no it is not puberty I wish I could tell you that

It is a sign that he probably has an infection somewhere and if not treated can cause death. Is there an emergancy clinic anywhere near you? Can you call them.

If you have to wait till morning keep him warm, quiet, keep on eye on him of course, and call the avian vet ASAP.

Here is an avian vet look-up tool, to see if there is anyone closer http://www.aav.org/vet-lookup/

Im sorry to hear that Jim isn't feeling well. :wine

he does sound sick and to stop any infection spreading he needs to see a vet and get some antibiotics. If there is not an avian vet within travelling distance, could you try a local small animal vet and ask to be referred to someone who has experience with budgies? of course an avian vet is better - but in times of need...

keep us posted

okay i have an update, jim is apparently better!!!

hes talking away, wolf whistling and flying around,i kept him with me holding him while i watched tv,he stayed with me for about 4 hours then he started to pick up.

Now hes back to normal, strange eh,but i am very very relieved.

i have noticed that both wings have new feather stumps at the very ends, filled with blood and he is fiddling with them quite a bit, maybe this was bothering him?

most likely but that is not normal? For them to just break or do you think he was injured flying around?

no they are new feathers growing through,i noticed a different noise while he was flying too,im just glad hes feeling better,he really is a good mate :P

If at all possible, still have him checked out. I know first hand that this can go right back downhill in the blink of an eye (almost literally). My Pixie was looking up again before she died. I'm not trying to scare you, but she was literally running around the cage, preening, playing, etc. and then moments later she was flapping around the bottom, struggling to hold on to life. She died about 40 minutes later. This was the night before she was scheduled in at the vet's. It's odd, but even sick birds seem to sometimes get a burst of energy and they will try to appear as normal as possible to the bitter end.

okay thats me up for the night keeping an eye on him, time to get some coffee. :P

Keep him calm and warm, it should be okay. :P Do you know the number for the vet nearest you? I know it's late there now but they might be able to see him in the morning if you call when they open up.

Im glad he's feeling better now. But I agree with terri, he needs to see a vet. Good luck tonight. I hope the coffee is strong, (Laughing out loud)

Jim is waaaay too special to us all, and I know you, please take Terri's advice. I, too, have had birds perk up and then die within hours.

They sure do. My mum found a sparrow in the drive yesterday morning. it was all puffed up, within a few hours it started to eat seeds and preen itself and a few hours later, it went to heaven

:angel1:

:P I just LOVE Jim and he is very special, but he apparently was very ill and you were very upset so do get him in to get checked out. Glad he is feeling better, it's most unusual he had this bad spell.

another update, all is cool with jim,he had a visit to the vets today and got a clean bill of health, apparently the new feathers coming through might of been bothering him,but hes fine now, very funny sitting in the waiting room with him wolf whistling away :hap:

Oh what a relief :)

I'm glad to hear he is okay! :hap:

Oh I bet he was sooo pleased to have people all over the world worried about, the cheeky monkey! I'm so pleased he's a happy chappy again, please give him a kiss from me

:hap: Yay Jim! I can just imagine him whistling away in the waiting room, as much as I don't like to go to the vets, the waiting room can be very entertaining at times. :)
