Freezing Vegetables

Just wondering, a lot of people talk about chopping up lots of fresh veggies and then freezing them for later use. Is there anything you need to do to the veggies first or do you just chuck them in the freezer? How long do they last once frozen? How do you defrost them again to feed to your budgie?

Most vegies you have to blanch Bea. Cut up, pop in boiling water for a minute or so, just till they start to cook, then drain quickly and pop in cold water (to stop the cooking process!)

It depends what vegie as to what you do to freeze them, and how long they last in the freezer. Just defrost to serve.

I'd be freezing probably brocolli, cauliflower, carrots. Actually, could you smoosh up some different veggies and pop them in ice cube trays?? I wonder if Stinks would eat that....

Broccoli I would blanch for 30 - 60 seconds (don't overload the pot, you want the water to stay boiling), cauli for 60 - 90 seconds, and carrots, depends on the size, but for about 90 seconds I suppose. Yes, you can boil your vegies, mash them all and freeze! I used to do that for my kids when they were little ones!

Cool, i will do that tonight. How long do you think the smashed veggies will last in the freezer?

3 months? If in a deep freeze. If your just popping in the freezer in the top of the fridge I would say just a month. Let me know how he goes!
