Blood Around Eye Area

Featured Replies

i got up this morning and my budgie has like a little bit blood around his left eye, its not on the eye and the eye looks fine but has like a bit of red on his feathers underneath his pink skin around the eye.

is this bad or has he maybe just caught himself on a perch or something?

It might be just from scratching - their little nails are sharp. But I would keep an eye on it and if you are really worried take him to your avian vet. Perhaps others could suggest a topical to put on it??

I would check out your cage for any sharp objects, and of course keep an eye on the wound.

i sprayed a bit of water like when he has a "bath" its clean and i can see a little cut like a paper cut, i think he cut his self when scratching as he always scratches his head :ausb:

and also he is eating drinking, chirping, talking and of coarse pecking me and his mirrors so he seems fine, just rubbing his cut on the perches alot now, it must sting or anoy him :hap:

if it seems to get worse in the next 2/3 days i would advise to have it looked at by a vet :D

It sounds like he's been scratching at his eye and has probably got a little cut. This isn't that serious but you have to wonder why he was scratching enough to cause damage. One of my budgies once did this and when we took her to the vet we found that she had sinusitus which was easily treatable. You should probably go to an avian vet just to check for an underlying problem. :D
