I am looking for a decent photograph of an anthracite. Can anyone refer me to a site where I could find one?

Thanks, Martine.

Sorry for being confused again with your posts, but I know no other language than english, so is this Anthrazits just another name for a grey budgie?

anthracite i believe is a new mutation (but i could be wrong) im sure i had a article on it which gave you the breeding expectations ect ie dominent or recesive but cant seem to find it but i will have another look

ohh New mutation well now I'm going to have to do a search of my own and find something in english.

There was a picture of it in Budgerigar World, you should be able to find on their site but if I remember well the pictures on the german site above are of much better quality. The mutation is called anthracite (a very deep grey) and first appeared in Cologne in 1998. It is tought to be a recessive mutation . I was just telling the member from Spain that I cannot read german, nor speak it. Sorry for the use of a foreign language. :D

Anthracite is the hardest of all the ranks of coal
Maybe why it is the name for the grey? :ausb:

Anthracite - colour

There was a picture of it in Budgerigar World

yea that was the artcle i was reading but i dont think its on their site

As Hath, i think anthracite is a new mutatíon. Few years ago I red an article about this mutation, and this article said anthracite appeared in Germany, in 1999, from the mate of a normal light green cock and a normal cobalt hen.

I think anthracite is an additional factor, like grey or violet. But I'm not sure about the genetic inheritance.

Regards.

Pd: in truth, I can't speak or undestand german, but I know some words.

Unless they've moved it Javy Cologne is in Germany (Köln=Cologne). :bluebudgie:

When you go here and scroll all the way down (almost) you will see she added this mutation recently. Very Interesting!

Anthracite

The anthracite budgie has a black (or very, very dark grey) body color. All other markings on the budgie are normal, except for the cheek patches, which are the same black as the body color. This variety is very new and was first established in Germany. This variety has been shown to be genetically semi-dominant. A single anthracite factor produces a darkening effect extremely similar to a single dark factor (producing cobalt). A budgie that is double-factor anthracite appears as the true anthracite with the black body color.

Basic Genetics:

Semi-dominant with normal

very pretty birds!
