Posted February 2, 200619 yr Well, I know I shouldn't but I did anyway...I bought two more budgies. Supposedly these are English Budgies, although, you could fool me. Maybe someone with a little more experience will be able to tell me. The black on is about 9 weeks old and the blue one, 3 months. The guy says it take "longer" for the English budgies to get the bigger head, I kind of wonder about that. I was probably duped. Anyway, here is a picture of them, and close-ups of their ceres. Let me know if you have any ideas about their sexes. thanks, Wendy here is the cere (blue bird) here is the cere (grey bird)
February 2, 200619 yr Very cute.. I'm not sure about the english budgie bit but looking at the pictures of the ceres id say you have got two females (but I'm not to good at telling) (Laughing out loud) .. they both look as if they have alot of white about the nostrils but then again that could be caused from the camera flash the last one definitely looks like a female if nothing else I will be interested on other peoples opinions too.. Cheers  Una

They might look better after the first moult. You may have been dubbed. The blue looks like a female and the grey a female but the grey is not really clear. Can you get a clear shot of the ceres with out the over exposure. (Brightness)
February 3, 200619 yr They both look like girls to me Oh well, I was hoping the blue one was a girl! Whichever it is I will love it. I felt the cere on the blue on was not as white like the grey one had.
February 3, 200619 yr two girls there, they dont look very much like english budgies (yet?). Lucky in my signature is an english budgie they both look beautiful though, i love thier colours! congrats! post lots more pics! Edited February 3, 200619 yr by pixie25

February 3, 200619 yr They're gorgeous Something about the chin spots make me feel like they could be partially English budgies, if not fully. It's more noticible on the grey one. Are they much bigger than your other birds? I also think that they are both female.
February 3, 200619 yr English babies are much larger than normals, i know this because one of the local pet shops has baby show budgies and they're MUCH larger with poofier heads so I think they're normals and both females. They're very cute though!
February 3, 200619 yr They are most likly from show stock but not with any feature that the breeders are after for showing. Is it true that English Budgies look like normals as babies? No, they are always larger than pet type ones.
February 3, 200619 yr Sorry Wendy, wish we could have given you better news..... But they are beautiful birds .
February 3, 200619 yr I wouldn't be surprised if they were half english, actually. The little blue girl has poofy cheeks and just a hint of the english budgie scowl in her eyes. The poofy cheeks could be incidental, I know... but if that's how she looks normally then I wouldn't doubt it. And the number of throat spots on your little grey girl are screaming half english to me. I have a feeling they've got a little show budgie in their blood. Of course, I could be wrong. I don't think they're fully english but they do seem to have glimpses of the characteristics.
February 4, 200619 yr I think I might have had a half English budgie. He had the poofy head and scowl, but his body was normal size. I have a fully English one now. His name is Poof and he was very large and poofy from the very start. He still had stripes/bars to his cere when I got him, so I know he was young.
February 4, 200619 yr Okay, I was finally able to get pictures without a flash. I am thinking that "Charlie" the grey bird is definitely a female but I think "Tiger" the blue one might just be a male. Let me know what you think. And here is just a cute one of Charlie, this is how she eats! :bluebudgie:
February 4, 200619 yr Those are great shots! I agree on the sexes. I think the grey is female and the blue is male.
