Posted January 30, 200619 yr Skip always seems to have his little poos stuck in he feathers around his bottom, just about every time I take him out I need to clean his bottom with a tissue, there is nothing wrong with the poos themelves they are the roundish, black and white things, they just stick on his feathers and he doesnt seem to try to get them off. I took him to the vet 2 days ago and she said there was nothing wrong with him any ideas?
January 30, 200619 yr Did the vet say the poos were perfectly normal? Or a bit dry? (It was an avian vet?). Do ALL his poos stick to him, or just some? If only some, what time of day, or after what kind of foods? What kind of diet is he on? (Oh, yeah, and here's my badge I feel a bit like a cop questioning a suspect )
January 30, 200619 yr Im going through this problem with Tobi too although hers seem to be better now. I think her problem is not enough fluids or veggies as the vet also cant find anything wrong with her. Sometimes Tobi doesnt get any water before bed and almost certainly all her poops ate stuck the next morning. Try some more fluidy foods and see if that helps at all.
January 30, 200619 yr Make sure your budgie is seeing an avian vet. They will do more than just look at him from the outside; they'll also run fecal tests to try and find the real problem. Giving foods higher in water content isn't really treating the source of the problem, it's merely dealing with a symptom. I think it would be much better to continue feeding your budgie as usual (provided that it is getting a healthy diet), make sure it has access to fresh water at all times, and monitor the droppings. You want to see if they change on their own without increasing watery veggies. Masking the symptom by giving watery veggies will only make the problem harder to keep track of. On the other hand, if your budgie is eating mostly or all seed, that should be changed. Budgies need a well-rounded, varied diet that includes seeds, pellets, and fresh vegetables daily. The fresh veggies you should feed are dark leafy greens and bright orange veggies. These are high in nutritional content as opposed to things like iceberg lettuce and celery which are mostly water and will do little more than give your budgie water droppings. Even if you suspect that the problem may be dietary, make an appointment with the avian vet. Budgie illnesses are nothing to take lightly, even when they seem to be harmless. The last thing you want to do is wait until the budgie is obviously in very bad shape to take action. By then, it may very well be too late. Good luck and keep us posted! January 30, 200619 yr hmm ive tried to give him vegies but he wont eat them, i will buy pellets tho as he has seed atm (and veg which he wont eat!
January 30, 200619 yr My birds seem to get that if there is any change in the water situation. I introduced a new water dish and I don't think they were drinking from it. The next day they had the sticky poop. I put the old water dish back and things went back to normal. I put my veggies in damp too so they can get the extra fluid while eating them. But it is probably good to have the avian vet check if it continues.
