my friend has a pair a male and a female, they are both over a year and are in breeding condition, he said the male has been feeding her she is in the nest box all the time the problem is, the hen is subbmitting to the male and is in position and the male doesnt mount, he looks as if hes confussed, ive been there when it happened. what is going on because i havent got a clue

Is he close to a year old? If he is, he might be still a tiny bit young. Give him a bit longer to get the idea. How long have they been in the breeding cage?

he is just ove two, i think they have been in there for a week or so, i know i told him to wait but he wanted some addvice, do you think he should just wait a while, well, when i say a week i mean the box has been in a week the pair has been together for about a year in a regular cage

Yep tell him to wait some more, it may take up to three weeks before any eggs show up. If this is both of their first times then they have to learn everthing from mounting to brooding to feeding chicks. I'm sure the male will catch on quick.

Plus most times budgies don't like an watchers and they will normally mate early morning with the daybreak.

Leave them for 21 days. If no go take them out for two weeks and then put the female in in the morning and the male in that afternoon or the next morning. Eggs should be in about 11 days after that.
