What Type Of Budgie Am I?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify my budgie in terms of variety/colourings and sex!!!

I bought him/her about four months ago and was eight about weeks old then.

Budgie is very loud!! protective of his cage and has just started to nip a little! But is soooooo cute when he cuddles up to his favourite toy!!

Sorry abuot the sizes of the pics... just getting use to the resizing thing....

Welcome to our forums :). He probably started to go through his first molt so that my make him irritable, and nippy. Ignore all nips and never react, if you do then they know they can 1. get away with it and 2. puts them in control.

As for his guarding of his cage and toys, do you switch his cage around? I do it once a week when I do a through cleaning, it is important rotate toys, put them in different areas of the cage so they don't become protective. Sounds like he has his favorite toy, you may want to rotate it out and reintroduce.

As for the mutation, I am learning so I will through out Opaline Cinnamon Sky Blue (his marking on is wings look brown per my monitor). Now I could be totally wrong (Laughing out loud), but that is my guess.

Ask questions anytime if you have one, this is a very friendly community.

Adding PS: it is a SHE...I defaulted in putting he :D

SHE looks to me like a skyblue normal budgie, and a very pretty one too.

Did I get it right? Eterri? Nerwen? Bea? Daz? Anyone?

Just looked again...ONE wing clipped? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?

Yes SHE for sure...I default to putting he all the time and since the sex question wasn't asked I just did it :D

I'm with you Lovey - all animals are he to me!

Well they really are aren't they :D (meaning men) :angel1:

I hate my monitor but I have to say she looks cinnamon to me. :D To everyone else, she's probably normal green. :)

Yes, have the avian vet even up those wings a bit. :P Ever try rowing a boat with one long paddle and one short one? Not very comfy! The same pretty much applies to flying. She's going to have pretty off balanced this way. She'll learn to compensate, but it's still not good for her to have to put uneven strain on the muscles just to fly in a straight line.

About her cage territorial issues: How often do you rearrange toys and perches? How do you react to the bites? Is there a mirror in the cage with her or other toy that she has become very posessive over?

She is gorgeous, by the way! :D

I got her with one wing clipped, I didn't know it was so dangerous, get it sorted straight away!!

I change her cage around once or twice a week, there is no mirror in her cage. I've taken her fav toy out a couple of times but the second its back in she can't take her eyes of it, unless i put in a brand new toy...

She seems to go berko when she hears other birds outside, she tries to copy the sounds they make. Maybe she lonely??

Prize goes to Lovey  That's what I see on my screen too.

All of my birds go berko when they hear the ones outside :dbb1: I find females like to call to them more than males.

What a beauty. STUNNING! I'm think that Lovey is right about mutation. At least that is how things are on my monitor. You know the bird may be lonely. Have you considered another one. I'm so glad I got two. They are great company for one another. I think that single birds probably bond better with their humans, but if you can't be around all the time (my husband and I work) then it is nice for them to have one of their own kind.

Welcome to the forum! I agree with Lovey too, and she's a beautiful bird. It's nice to hear that you evened her wings up

:D I got it right, there is HOPE!! :dbb1: Really I am so excited...

How much time do you spend with her during the day? Are you home all day? How long is she alonse during the day. A second budgie is a great idea but only if you are ready. Pretty is a single budgie and he does great.

There is usually someone home everyday. Everyone talks to her, she likes to mimic noises she hears i.e when i type on the key board

She comes out atleast an hour a day and is sometimes moody and nippy.

she seems to bite hard sometimes when she's sitting on top of her cage and i pick her up. she will usually just hop on my finger but she insist on bitting!

well biting is normal for a female budgie, so just don't react even though it hurts. When you are doing things at the keyboard or when you know she likes to nip can you distract her by offering her a toy (not as a reward but to get her mind off the nipping).

I did read that one gal had success every time her budgie nipped she would push his beak back very slightly and it worked, others say there is no punishment in the budgie world. I haven't had any disciplinary issues with Pretty so I am lucky so far.
