How Many In The Aviary?

Featured Replies

Posted

hi,

I have an outdoor aviary which is 1.5m L x 1m D x 2m H... I was wondering how many budgies can I comfortably fit into the aviary that size? I'm thinking of adding some more birdies in there, but I don't want to crowd them.

Oh, and currently I have 9 budgies in there that seems quite content.

Thanks in Advance.

Cheers

You will have no problems doubling that, just remember how you will get in and out.

Some so called expertes say that 4 inches of perch is enough for a budgie. So to them add up the totall length of perches and devide by 4 inches or 100mm.

I perfer a lot more area for my birds.

I wouldn't put more that 10 pairs in my aviary.

Well mine is a little bit bigger than yours and i'll soon have 26 budgies in there. I expect you could probably fit about 15 - 20 in yours provided you arrange the perches well so there's plenty of perching space. :hap:

Cool. I was only thinking about adding another five or so, so that shouldn't be a problem than. Thank you both for your help. :hap: Cheers.

I wouldn't go for more than 10-12 budgies in a cage that size.

Each bird needs their own space to get away from the others.

If I allow 5 birds per perch in my aviary I would get. 40 birds.

At 100mm per bird per perch it would be 7.5 birds per purch and I have 8 perches so that is 60 birds.

 That in my beleif is way too much. I would not go more than 20 birds. That gives each bird. 300mm or 12 inches of there own space.

Oh at the moment I have 7 in there. ;)

Oh remember in Australia and maybe other countrys there is a max number of birds that you legally keep. In my area it is 20 unless I get a permit.

I wouldn't have more than 10 birds in your aviary Daz.

My aviary - 1.5M X 3M X 1.8 M - which you saw, I drastically reduced the amount of birds in it after a particularly successful breeding season last year.

I now house 21 budgie (2 went in today), 3 kakariki, 7 Bourke & 2 Turks (which I'm trying to sell).

I won't allow more than 40 birds in that aviary now as it gives them room to get away from each other.

I don't like living in a crowded house.

Really?? As far as I know, there's not max number for budgies kept here. They are exempted from licensing or something along that line. The same goes to Cockatiels and king quails and a few others.

:D How's that daz? I have never heard of that before. I know people who keep 1000 + birds and only need a permit for the threatened/at risk birds.
