They are getting along GREAT together, I was a little worried at first but they are just too cute together.. Munchy is so more advanced than Apple was at this stage, he is mostly eating his bird seed and loving it, he is also flying  (Laughing out loud) Apple still hardly fly's about.. Munchys siblings out in the nesting box are coming along really great also (they are also nice and smooth :P ) It makes me realize that i'm lucky i have Apple, i think i must have just got him in time out of the nest  Hes my scruffy little man, and still so little

Cheers

Una

way to cute Una, you need to video the feeding and talking at the same time that sounds so funny & cute at the same time. I am so glad they are getting along well.

I'm glad they're so happy together. The both look so gorgeous. You are definately very lucky to have those two, they obviously both love you very much

Una, Apple is looking gorgeous as usual! :hap: Munchy is sooo pretty (and smooth  ) His wing has beautiful colouring...love the picture of him stretching...Just curious, what colour are his parents?

Oh Munchkin is jussssst gorgeous. But no one will take the place of Apple in my heart, he is just toooo special. A video would be lovely

Aaaaw they are so cute together! Hope you get some more great pics soon! :hap:

 the only way i can get video is with my web cam so a little later i will set my cam up on the floor and see what i can come up with

Im now not sure on who is exactly Munchkins father  but its either ......

Applesmumndad_450x431.jpg

The darker green one on the right, the lighter one is Munchys and Apples mum, oh and he is Apples father also.

OutsideBudgies_244x450.jpg

Or this little guy  In the clutch i have what appears to be a little yellow and green pied babie, do i need a pied father to get this or can that happen in any clutch?

Lin, Apple seems to wrap everyone around his little feet, hes just so pint sized and scruffy with such a HUGE personality.. Im so lucky to have him :hap: I love him to pieces..

Oh and while i think of it, and sorry because im not asking in the right thread butttttttt.. What is Munchy is terms of colouring? his chest is bluey green, his bottom half is blue and the rest is yellow :P

I think Munch is a yellowface type II... in those photos he looks cobalt blue to me too. His wing markings and colour are normal

Either of those males could be Munch's father. As for whether pied babies could appear from Apples parents, for dominant pieds, at least one of the parents must be a dominant pied. I don't think Apples Mum is a dominant pied, but I can't be 100% sure from that photo. If she is, this would explain any dominant pieds.

To get recessive pied chicks, neither parent has to be a recessive pied *visually*, but BOTH parents have to be at least split for the gene. So it is possible that both Apples parents are split for the gene (both of Quins were ).

The second male is a normal blue recessive pied, and looks yellowface type II (or maybe goldernface).

Munch has a yellow face, and that gene must have come from somewhere. It could be the second male, but it could also be either of the other "parents" (Apples Mum and Dad would have yellow faces anyway, so it's very hard to tell if they have the yellowface gene.

If munch's blue is as dark as it looks to me (ie if he is actually cobalt blue) then the dark factor responsible for this could have come from the Apple's Dad (who looks like a normal dark green).

And yes, I realise that was probably totally unhelpful!:P

Edit: Just to show I probably have *no* idea whatsoever, I just looked at the second male again, and he looks kind of like a girl to me :hap:

 yeah i thought that at first about the second male also but i was informed on these forums that the colour of his crea is infact that of a littel male, but what sold me on the idea he is a he was seeing him get his groove thang on with Apples mum  But i wasnt sure if any of his eggs survived as the little green male smashed the first few that were layed :hap:

And considering i know SQUAT about the hows and why's of budgie genes, your information is still helpful, thank you

This is the only other photo i have of Apple and Munchys mum, when she was sitting on Munchy in his little egg

:hap: Glad they are getting along, so sweet.

okay, well, I'm pretty sure that the Mum is not a dominant pied (looks like a normal green spangle, oe maybe dilute even, looking again at that picture higher up). That means that no matter who the parents are, the pied baby has to be a recessive pied. Doesn't really help determine who the parents are though :D

Maybe the dark factor does if Munch is a cobalt blue, but I'd like Nerwen's opinion on this :D

what sold me on the idea he is a he was seeing him get his groove thang on with Apples mum

Hehehe, I figured something like that must have happened :(Laughing out loud):

Also, Apple's Mum has the most amazing blue eyes in that photo, are they like that in real life?

Yeah her eyes look like that in real life also ((Laughing out loud) i had to just go outside and check) ..

Talking about eyes, I was amazed at how HUGE Munchkins eyes are, Apples eyes are so tiny in comparison..

Awesome that her eyes look that blue in real life :(Laughing out loud):, that has got to be very unusual :P And, yes, Munch's eye's *do* look kinda big :hap: Maybe it's because he has a tiny head compared to Apple? Or because he still has dark iris rings?

Aw they are both gorgeous!! you are soooo lucky!!

I love Apple's mom.. she's such a cute opaline spangle. Munch is so pretty now - the blue really stands out. My guess is that the recessive pied is his father.. would explain the yellowface type 2.

  • 2 weeks later...

great shots

Ausmoz your doing GREAT with genetics just as I said you would.

The possible dad in the first picture is a olive which means he has two dark factors to give away. Yes he can still be munchies farter but it means one or of the parent is split for yellowface blue. This can happen just like the normal blue gene green dominantes it.

Apple and Munchies mum is also opaline. Una you might be luck and a clutch made of to farthers if you did she her breed with both of them. WHich could explain the pied baby now, or as ausmoz said both are split for recessive pied.

BUT I love both of your little ones :( Spangles and yellowfaces my two fave kinds. Lucky You.

:(Laughing out loud): :(Laughing out loud): Heheee.. oh i couldnt let that slip past..

The mother is once again sitting on a clutch of 5 eggs, she layed the first one the day the last baby left the nesting box (atleast she is keen) and with this clutch she has had both of the same males at her again, so i have no idea what ill end up with this time :(

 That is so adorable!!! Apple sure has "ants in his pants" and is in perpetual motion. Reminds me of my breeding without a nest box male, Comet, he exhausts me just looking at him and makes the other birds look like sloths. :)
