MY PET BUDGIE STARTED TO LOSE SOME SOFT FEATHERS ON DAILY BASIS>

IS THIS NORMAL? HE SEEMS TO BE okay OTHERWISE.

ALSO HE DOES NOT SEEM TO DRINK MUCH WATER. IS THEIR ANY TIPS ON GOOD WATER DISPENSING DEVICES?? :D:P

Welcome to our community. The first thing you will want to do is take it off of CAPS because that is considered shouting in the internet world :D.

How old is your budgie? It is very normal for them to start molting at around 4-6 months.

If you click on Terri's site, and then click on Grooming it talks about molting. http://budgietalk.com/

Let us know if this is what is happening okay. Also if you can take a picture of your budgie that always helps us out and we love pictures.

What type of water device are you using now? What does he do with the water? Do you think he may be trying to use it to preen his feathers or take a bath?

What types of feathers is your budgie losing? Are they small ones or the larger feathers? Do they look like the long tail and wing feathers and how many would you say are lost a day?

I agree with lovey, it does sound like molting and that is perfectly normal. But there are some illness that cause feather loss too which is why I asked so many questions. :D

In general budgies don't drink alot of water. Some are shy and you will rarely "catch" them doing so.. But has yours suddenly stopped drinking as much as he did before?

Thank you for your response. To answer your question, I have only seen him drinking once since I inherited him. He seems to be chirpy and eating a bit less than before. He never comes near the water dispenser, but seem to like open containers. Haven't figured out yet where to find a good dispenser.

Hi

Thanks for your response.

He seems to be losing one or two of the wing or tail feathers per day. He seems to be losing more of the little ones and the fluffy type.

I decided to take him to the bird hospital tomorrow, just to get an idea about the general health of my bird.

Sounds like a good plan, please keep us updated. :)

I really don't know how old. I inherited him from a neighbour who passed on. I know she had him for sometime, but don;t know how long exactly. Wonder if there is a way of telling their age?

Thanks for the tip re budgietalk.com, it did help me.

I started to spray a mist of luke warm water, he seems to like it. Off to see the Avian Dr tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again :)

I think he likes the open containers because he wants to bathe, have you ever tried to give him a sturdy bowl of lukewarm water, with a little bit of water in it and see what he does? And if he likes the mist that is what he wants a bathe :P.

Yes tell us what happens at the avian vet, keep us updated.

 Hello Aziz and welcome to the forums.

Your budgie sounds like he is moulting, but he is soooo lucky to have someone like you to care for him. It sounds from your posts, that you will be the perfect new owner for him.. Keep us all posted on your vet visit and I look forward to seeing you about the forums :hap:

Cheers
