Posted January 14, 200619 yr Since Ollie is only eating the white millet in his seed I'm going to get him pellets. They say pellets are a complete diet, which I know isn't true, but what else should I feed with it. I will still feed a variety of veggies but is there anything else I should feed? Also I know about 2 teaspoons of seed a day, is that the same with pellets. Thanks in advance. -Julie & Ollie
January 14, 200619 yr You can just have the pellets available to him all day long. Feed as much as he wants to eat but make he gets his seed daily as well. He'll need fresh veggies on a daily basis, it usually helps to feed those first thing in the morning. On top of these things you can offer fruit as a healthy (well, mostly healthy) treat and cooked mixes that included beans, legumes, lentils, things of that nature. If you can find Beak Appetit at a pet store near you or online that would be a good food to give him. http://beakappetit.com Wheatgrass a few times a week is a VERY healthy "treat." Mine love it. Also, what seed mix are you feeding? What are the ingredients? Switching to a healthier seed mix can also help. I've got a bit more information on foods at my diet page: http://budgietalk.com/diet.html
January 14, 200619 yr Also, what seed mix are you feeding? What are the ingredients? Switching to a healthier seed mix can also help. smile.gif Its called brown's traditional seed mix, Its definatly not the best food but when we needed food that was all we could find at the store. The ingredients are White Millet, Canary Seed, Oats. He is only eating the millet..figures Today I'm going to a pet store dedicated to birds so i'll be sure to get some better food there. -Julie & Ollie
January 14, 200619 yr That would be good. Try to find one with a lot of different ingredients (granted it isn't just ten different types of millet). Pretty Bird is a good brand. Alternatively (and better than any store mix), if you're up for ordering bird food online I know of a few places to get a GREAT organic seed mix. A friend sent me a sample of a mix and not only is it healthy but it smells nice and the birds seem to devour every part of the mix. This is the mix I've "converted" my birds to. You can get that same mix from the Birdsafe Store. It's similar to the recipe I posted not long ago, actually. Just less hassle trying to find all the separate seeds and grains yourself.
