How Often To Use Millet

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if you should put a limit on spray millet. I currently just put some in the cage and then when it is gone i put new stuff in. Is that good, or is Ollie going to get fat off the stuff?

Thanks

You should keep it as a weekly treat. :) Millets very fattening and having a constant supply of millet will probably mean that Ollie's not eating enough of the more healthier seed in his bowl. :P

Once a week (as Bea said) is okay as long as they're getting plenty of healthy foods otherwise. The last time my birds had millet was on Christmas and it had been such a long time that they didn't know what it was! :(Laughing out loud): It's definitely not a necessity and I like to try to give them healthier treats. So far their favorite (by far) is seeds covered in sweet potato baby food. Oh, and almonds but it's been a while since I've had those around so they haven't had them in a while. And wheatgrass! They LOVE it and it's very healthy.

i give my birds a mouthful i rip a bobble of the stalk and put it in there greens!(Laughing out loud) it makes them eat them!kiwi has a bit more for training but i limit it to very little

hhhmmmm i put a bit in and it takes joey like a month to finish it, he must be rationing it :budgiedance:

i give mine half a millet spray between them at the weekend. either that or a small honey seed bell. i dont give them anymore than that.

in the beginning it is wise to limit millet to a taming only tool. :budgiedance:

I only use it for him to eat as a treat sometimes only 1 a month and if he is being picky with eating veggies that day will sprinkle a bit on there for him to warm up his palate :budgiedance:

Mine dont have millet spray at all anymore since Tobi got poorly. They seem better for it and much prefer my homeade egg food treat on a Saturday and if they arent too piggy there is some left for Sunday and a small bowl on a Monday.

But to offer once a week is fine.

My tiels have millet spray almost everyday but they dont eat much of it.

Charlie and Joey have a millet spray between them once a week which they really look forward to. SB used to have one every day but as he was so tiny and didn't put any weight on and he would eat anythng it didn't seem a problem with him.
