Breeding Or Not Breeding?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I have 4 keets and a green cheeked conure. Two of my keets are mating but have not produced an egg. It has been over 2 weeks of what I would consider successful mating. I have heard that the vent gets enlarged, but I would like to know how long is it enlarged before the egg appears? If anyone can tell me how to post a picture, I would appreciate it. I would like to be able to show a picture I took of her vent.

Thank you,

Wendy

Hi wendyzattic, Welcome to the forums!

The vent definately will get larger before the eggs are layed, it goes red and looks very uncomfortable.

With your picture you have to host the photo on webspace(eg.photobucket is free) and then cut and paste url link or the img link( use this if you want people to see the picture...the other one(url) is just to send people to the space where you keep your photos...hope this helps :nest:

Congrats on the egg! How exciting! They are so small, aren't they? Usually, the vent will look swollen beginning about 24 hours before she lays. She probably looks slimmed down around the vent now, but by tomorrow evening she will begin to look swollen again, and Friday you should have egg number 2.

Welcome to the forum, by the way, from me and my 10! :(

Thank you! Yes the egg is very small, like a jelly bean. My girl blue sat on it for a couple of hours now but has since left the nest. From all of the reading I have done, I am not so worried. I hope by the next egg, she will settle in for the long haul and sit on the eggs till they hatch. She has slimmed down a bit, but not as much as I thought she would. I will keep an eye out for the next egg. Anyway, this is very exciting. I have hand-raised my Green cheeked conure from 2 weeks old, but I have never been mom to an egg before. This will be a great experience! Thank you for all your help....all of you!

Congatulations

Hi Wendy and welcome to the forum. You hen should start incubating on the second or third egg. Count 18 days from that time for the eggs to hatch. The next egg will be in two days time. If this her first clutch the eggs might be a bit off time. Don't worry too much about that.

Enjoy the forum.

Okay, I must be doing something wrong with my picture but I thought I had sized it. I went to photobucket and it said it was only 160x107. What can I do to fix it next time>?

Here it is:

Welcome to the forum.. Congratulations for the egg. Keep us updated (with pictures.. if you can) I hope that everything goes well for you and your birds.

Well the size I found was around 590 X 350ish. It a big big for the size stated of 450X450. Thank you for trying to fix the problem. :hap: If you have a phot programe you could resize it before uploading it to photoshop, or use the link like you have for poeple to view your pictures.

Hello and welcome :ausb:

In the pictures section of theis forum, there is an info link that tells you how to post pictures and a free download that resizes your pictures for you. You will see at the top of the page just above the posts in that forum. :(
