Posted January 4, 200619 yr To get an opaline does one of the parents have to be an opaline? Just wondering because Blondie is making me think of an opaline (yellow head -no bars- green edging on wings and as far as i can tell so far very few markings between her wings, just green) but i'm sure i've read somewhere that one of the parents has to be opaline.
January 4, 200619 yr a dad can be split opaline that can be passed on to and show on a female offspring I don't remember seeing green on the wings But I would have to have another lookie.
January 4, 200619 yr Bea, is one of the parent Opaline? This is what I've learn from one of my breeding pair. Kiko is a female Opaline, and Blue Boy is a Normal. They produced an Opaline female in their first clutch, and other one in their second clutch...it looks like it's a boy this time...not sure for the moment. In order for it to be Opaline, the father has to be an Opaline. In this it is a sex link characteristic and all the chicks that are Opaline will be females. Another example is that if the female is an Opaline and the male is a Normal but is split to Opaline. Opaline chicks will be produce. If the male is a normal but not split, then chicks carry that Opaline gene. It applys to the other sex link budgies.
January 4, 200619 yr Author a dad can be split opaline that can be passed on to and show on a female offspring :fear I don't remember seeing green on the wings But I would have to have another lookie. Just took some photos of little Blondie: See, green edged feathers. Also i noticed some of the wing feathers look like they might be yellow with black bars followed by green bars. Just some general cuteness. Awwwww. Edited January 4, 200619 yr by Bea
January 4, 200619 yr I think this page mentions something to do with the genes... http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/1958/notech2.html The site is great
January 4, 200619 yr is that doubt I see in your words bea : Last time round you didn't get any girls for these two right??? Only Porkball cause the other was a foster? oops forgot to add that theyw ings do look greenish. and opaline might explain the pale head too. Edited January 4, 200619 yr by Nerwen
January 4, 200619 yr Author Porkball's a girl from them. I hope Blondie is an opaline, that would be so exciting!
January 4, 200619 yr Ah glad I re-looked that up iw as thinking it wuld happen if you already got a girl that wasn't opaline, but it hit me I was thinking of when it's the mother that is opaline, we know Buzz isn't so only Girk can have the gene split. There is a chance bea
January 5, 200619 yr I love the pics of that little sweetie. She could be an opaline. That would be interesting. She'll be a beauty either way.
January 5, 200619 yr ...and opaline might explain the pale head too. ??? What do you mean? Bea, that baby budgie is too cute!
January 5, 200619 yr opaline makes the bars on the head look fainter. Really? I didn't know that. I don't notice a difference on mine. I will watch for that. Thanks.
January 5, 200619 yr well I have seen pics that do that but not in all opalines. Tootie looks like it but that might be for the clearbody gene not the opaline one.
January 5, 200619 yr I think that is interesting. You are just a fount of knowledge, nerwen! And thanks.
January 5, 200619 yr Author Opaline basically gets rid of the head bars doesn't it. All my opalines have no/almost no head bars.
January 5, 200619 yr I got a bit lost while reading this but will tell you about Oplaine.. Girls can not be split to it, so if Opaline will show it..All her sons will be split to opaline.. Boys can be split to it.. Bea if the parents arn't opaline then dad is split to opaline.
January 6, 200619 yr Author I'm so sure Blondie is an opaline! She's gorgeous! Can a budgie be opaline and pied?
