Should I Add Another Budgie?

Featured Replies

If you have read my last post I was wondering what type of budgie I should get next.

But I don't know whether I should get one or not. I decided that if I get a new one it would be a little boy :). But I was wondering if I got a new one and introduced it to the pair, would that upset the dynamics of the group?

I have a few questions:

Is three a bad number? Is 2 boys and 1 girl okay? Is my cage large enough for an extra budgie? Here is a picture of it, you can see Izzy and Saffron sitting in the top right corner: http://photobucket.com/albums/c203/Sailorw...009_450x337.jpg

I have another cage that is smaller, which I can use for quarantine time, but my budgies will have to miss out on their outside time :ausb:

Will adding a baby make th older budgie grumpier? Will my younger budgie be more inclined to play explore and exercise. ( I think he's fat :rip: )

Thanks for all of your help, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :) :bluebudgie:

Sadness :(

from what i've read (i only have one bird right now) females are fine with two males, but will not tolerate shoring of a boy between two girls.

in my 8 years experience with rats, who are group animals like budgies, they need there own companion in addition to you. if i remember, your female is old, and most likley will pass before the male you have, and will want and need another friend once she is gone. i think it would be a good idea to get one now, rather than if the female is gone. so he doesent have to wait till quarnten is over to not be alone. i also think having another friend would help to give him someone young and eager to play and lose some budgie pudge :)

Here is their cage. Is it big enough for a third budgie? :bluebudgie: :budgiedance:

I am jealous that is a beautiful cage, our is a little over 1/2 the size we need to upgrade when we get the chance. I would say yes, but I might be wrong so I will let the experts step in :)

how exciting!! I love it when i get a new budgie (havn't for a while mind you)

As for those questions.. I'll pass and wait for somebody smarter than me to come along!

I think the cage is plenty big enough for a third budgie. Nice play-gym by the way, i have the same one for Blinks. :)

You could have 4 birds in that cage. As for what type you should get...well thats up to you. I would go for a female.
