January 6, 200619 yr By stick things do you mean they look like this??? If so, that is normal. The feathers come out encased in a keratin sheath that gradually falls away when the feather is ready to unfurl. The same thing would have happened in your other birds, but you may not have noticed it.
January 6, 200619 yr Thanks Rainbow & Nerwen. Yes Rainbow, that is exactly what it looks like. Geez it looks very uncomfortable. I can't imagine I wouldn't have noticed it with the parrots. They just lost a lot of the down feathers and a few colored ones. With Kernel it is very noticeable. I gave him a little bird tub with warm water yesterday. You know the kind with the mirror at the bottom? He jumped right in and loved it. It seems small for him though. Does anyone have any ideas if it is okay to use something bigger? I also gave him zucchini for the first time yesterday and he ate quite a bit of it. I gave it to him raw in teeny tiny pieces. He also ate some cooked carrots and celery the other day. I made chicken noodle soup and took some of the carrots and celery out for him. I can't get over how open he is to veggies It's amazing how such a little guy can bring so much joy to my home. I didn't bond with the parrots like I did with this little boy. I'm not sure why. My youngest son was allergic to the parrots and I was terrified about getting a budgie, but so far he is fine with him. I guess one little bird doesn't have as much dander as the two big ones. I'm so grateful since I can't imagine not having him!!! Well if anyone has any tips or suggestions for me, I'd LOVE to hear them. Any favorite budgie toys or foods. I'm sort of doing with him what I did with the parrots, but on a much smaller scale. I'd love to hear from all you experienced budgie lovers if there is anything I'm missing. Thanks again. Cathy
