Can't Use Foot

Baby has both feet, but he can't/won't use his left foot. The story goes his mum sat on him wrong. I want to get him to use that foot, or at least try before the muscle wears away to nothing.

Mmm, bit of physio? Gently move the foot around, that will help keep the muscles supple for longer. A few times a day I would suggest.

That is what I would suggest, is physical therapy on the foot. If he lets you. Also you know how they get us to walk on treadmills, how about using your finger as a ladder to step up. Not sure how much too much is but see how he is doing. Have him step up and then up and then up, like 5 x and see if that is too much or if he can do more. I believe just encouraging movement will be the best.

I wouldn't mess with his foot in such a way unless he's been seen by a vet and the vet says it's okay. You can do more harm than good by guessing at what's wrong and attempting "physical therapy." For instance, what if there is no hope for him ever using that foot and movement causes him pain? It would be a lot of pain for no purpose.

Does he use the foot at all? Can he open and close it or perch with it or does he just not use it, period?

I took him and Skye to the vet, she's started favouring one foot too. He said the smaller toe on his left foot has had nerve damage and he can't feel anything. His longer toe he just doesn't use anymore.

I was also told step ups would help both birds, but Baby's worked out that flapping his wings lifts his body weight so he can hop up. I just wanted some extra ideas, as I've run out!

His memorial is in the Memorium section.

Farewell my brilliant baby boy, I'll never forget you. He was here such a short time, but he still had me wrapped around his flight feathers.

 Now you've depressed me.

As for Skye, she's her normal, noisy self. She will not hop up at my convenience, only hers.

 That's too bad, I was hoping he was just a little lame on that foot.
