Posted December 14, 200519 yr Here's Tirikke before we got the treatment for her scaly face. And here she is again about a month after treatment. Doesn't she look gorgeous now?! Just thought some people might be interested to see her.
December 14, 200519 yr great work But i think this should be in the heath area, as a tip and pinned so..... *topic moved*
December 15, 200519 yr I'll add them to the FAQ if no one has already. Great pictures (even though the first one made my stomach squirm).
December 15, 200519 yr Very detailed pictures.. she looks much better now. Were any of your other birds affected? Do you have to keep her separated?

December 15, 200519 yr jeez i didnt know scaly was that bad, glad to see the after picture looking so much better
December 15, 200519 yr Author Yeah, it's really awful looking. I had to keep her separate until it cleared up and i also had to treat all my other budgies but thankfully none of them ever showed any signs of it. She's back in the aviary and happier and more active than i've ever seen her.
December 17, 200519 yr Excellent post. I found a link to add here which may be of help also.. http://www.birds2grow.com/art-scalyface.html
December 17, 200519 yr Ewwww.... What is the cause of scaly face anyway? Glad shes better now Scaly face is caused by a mite that burrows into the skin, I think the mite that causes it is called Cnemidocoptes pilae.....yep it is..the vet told me that the mite can be present for years and no reaction/symptoms will show.
March 5, 200619 yr You can actualy see on the picture where the mites burrow into.....eeeewww :bluebudgie:

April 16, 200718 yr do you know what the treatment is for scaly face is because I think that one of my birds has got it.Please could you tell me what the signs are. Thanks for your help, toffeefuff My vet prescribed Ivomee with glycerine drops - shaken VERY well - once a week in mouth. Best take your budgie to the vet incase it is different... And oh my god! Cosmo just flew onto my arm when I went o pick him up! He crawled to my shoulder and is NOW chirping! :angel1: Also - I was wondering - the vet told me that if he had any worms - they will come out too. Well, ta-daaaa! Cosmo has had a little bit of diarrhoea, and a little bit of vomitty stuff (including seeds everywhere - including on cage bars). He is still chirpy, but doesn't look 100%. The wormy looking thing looked like a pale-green long (about 15mm long) lump in his sloppy poopoo. It actually came off him when he flew into the window - it stuck to the window! bleghh... Hopefully this is what the vet meant! ick but good! Glad if he is being wormed! (*also - Cosmo won't get off my head, and is still not ready for fingers - hope he doesn't let one rip!)
