White Budgies.

Featured Replies

Today I was at the loacal pet shop, the lady who owns it has been breeding for 35 years and she is so clever when it comes to budgies, I have milked her for information many a time. I went there to find a mate for one of my young males and among all the budgies in the avery I noticed a little girl who was completely white. Hopefully I can introduce them soon! I am wondering what colour babies she will have? The male is A darkish blue with black, blue and white on his wings with some dark green feathers in his tale. Any ideas?

The lady at the pet shop said they should make some nice combinations, she also said that 80% of all white budgies are female???does anyone know if this is true?

It sounds like a pied. Karen can let you know about Albinos. As she breeds them.

Without seeing your pair, I would guess that the babies would be blue - but I'm really sure what kinds of mutations they would be. The male babies would be split for albino. You won't get any albino babies from this pair unless your male is split for albino.

Yes.. most of white budgies are female.. I'm not sure if it is 80% though. Albino is a sex linked trait so males that are split for albino can have some visable albino female babies. To get a male albino baby you'd have to breed a male split for albino with an albino female or a male and female albino.

Cool,I'll try and get some pics of them both today.....thanks for the info!

So let me get this right...to get an albino you have to use a male that has an albino parent (even if he is not albino) and breed him with an albino female??? :)

yep perfect Bec. But the question is do you in fact have an albino? Does your little girl have red eys? If yes then she is an albino.

A picture of the male ( her too :)) would help to work out what you might get.

She has red eyes...i'm so excited! charging the batteries as I type, I put their treats in and they're furiously munching them, they'll be so full just sitting around doing nothing by the time the batteries are charged! Bugger... :P ..oh well there's always tomorrow. :P :feedbirds:

Not the best photo but this is the female Pearl (white)...and Sherbet her best friend also a girl.

You have a dilute Yellow and an Albion in the first picture.

The bottom picture is not clear for me? The left one is a blue. the right one looks aqua or Parblue

Jelly looks to me like a sky blue and Max is interesting. He has a spot on the back of head like a pied, but his cere is coloured so he is not recessive. Also his beak is not orange. Can you get another picture of him standing up?

Max, he's my baby even though he's in the avery he still loves me, always comes over to say hi!

What do you think about Max???

Maz is a cutie :dbb1:

No really I think he might be a grey green dominant pied.

Daz- you bowl me over, i have always though ones like this as sky blue and looking like that from the flash of camera, but i wonder if this is the way to spot a double factor parblue.

What does all that stuff about Max mean??...What is a double factor parblue??Harry???I'm getting very confused! :ausb: .... :D .......... :dbb1:

Sorry Nerwen  He can't be a parblue as type I is yellow faced type II is goldenface. I don't know if you can get a parblue with a white face? The way I see a parblue is the bleed of the face into the feathers.

Harry is more green than blue? But Aqua? I have never heard of one. A ParblueBlue is more green.

Aqua is just how I describe him because when he is standing next to the others especially the blue ones it's the only way I can describe his colour - it is not blue but it is not green either...I don't know....

Well, that makes the colour dilute. I hope Nerwen is proud of me

You have some very pretty birds. Dominant pied describes the mutation that give Maxx his markings - the way he has patches of yellow on his body. The bird in my signature is also dominant pied -- their markings can vary greatly from bird to bird.

Thanks, I love them....what does not having an orange beak mean??do you know?

having a birght orange beak is one (but not the best one) of the signs for a recessive pied.

Actually, for dominant pieds too. Rainbow's beak was orange, and out of the 7 pied babies 4 are orange. And the aqua is considered skyblue.

Nerwen, Daz, something to think about - if the bird is aqua which normally signifies type 2 yellowface blue, but has a white face, what is the possiblity the bird is actually a doublefactor yellowface? I've never read anything about that, and it just crossed my mind. :P :ausb:

that's just what crossed my mind too Rainbow :P

I want to dash of to all the pet shops around here and take a quick look at all the blues :ausb:

OMG......you guys lost me ages ago......I have no idea! :ausb:: :P :(Laughing out loud):

  • 2 months later...

I was going to start another topic but thought I could use this one because it has pictures of the birds I'm talking about!

Max and Sherbet decided to take their relationship to the next level and are the proud parents of four healthy chicks and three eggs to go..... :o I think I'm more excited about it than they are :ausb: As these two have never bred before, I have no idea what their offspring will look like???? The eggs have been hatching one per night for four nights... I am sooo impatient for them to get feathers it's not funny :D

I will keep trying to put pictures up , but as yet I haven't been able to find a way to plug my camera into Mum's old computer......Does anyone have any ideas on what to expect from this pair....Sherbet is a dilute yellow and Max is a grey green dominant pied.... :D

OH Bec I didn't even know youhad eggs :budgiedance: Congratuations.

You will get dominant pied and normal babies, some normal green and some grey green like dad, depending if they get the grey gene from dad or not. If Max is split for the dilute gene then you will get some dilute babies as well. I Hope you get the camera sorted soon so we can see some pictures.
