Posted November 22, 200519 yr i just tried to let one of my budgies out but when she tried to fly out somthing happened and she ened up pulling one of her wing feathers off and it started to bleed. well i wiped most of the blood off and its not bleeding anymore and she dosnt seem to be real injured but i was wondering if i would have to put any disenfectant on it. If you know what i should do please let me know as soon as possible!!! thanks :excl:
November 22, 200519 yr Seeing as the bleeding has stopped i would just keep an eye on it. If it starts to bleed again put some corn flour (plain flour if you don't have corn flour) on the cut to stop the bleeding.
November 22, 200519 yr Don't put any disenfectant on it unless it is made for bird, human stuff can be harmful to our pets, since we have a different ph level and other things. I wonder what a bird's ph level is if at all I know a dogs is different.
November 22, 200519 yr Great questions, I guess call the Avian MD, because I looked on the net and didn't find anything but the averages for a CBC, nothing on PH.

I used a powder anticeptic for one of my chooks when it was mauled by a dog, she had big rips and holes over her body and she healed perfectly...just recently my dog had a cancerous tumor removed from his leg, before his chemo the vet asked me to go to the chemist and buy some anticeptic powder as he had ripped his stitches out and had a hole in his leg...the hole healed..no infection just a little scar! Also just a suggestion but at the Native ARC (Animal Rescue Center) where I volunteer we use HONEY as it is a natural anticeptic and assists the body to heal we treat all animals with open wounds with it...from bob tails to possums to galahs it really does work!!!
November 23, 200519 yr Yep, honey is hydroscopic and sucks the water out of things, so it kills bacteria that way.
November 27, 200519 yr Wow interesting fact, I love honey, eat it to help prevent hayfever and ward off other diseases. Hope your budgie is on the mend BudgieBabe13
