Posted November 10, 200519 yr Oh my God! I just noticed Sqweakies toe nails, they are sooo short. I took her to the Vet this last Monday the 7th Nov. for a check-up again, she was acting strange and inactive for her anyway. Well to make a long story short he told me she is too fat and she has 2 tumors one on her chest and another between her leg's. He put her on a diet and gave me some kind of medication called TMS Suspention which I put in her water once a day. She will be going back in a week for further tests. I am so upset about this my stomacke churns every time I think about it. Which is alot, I am keeping a close watch on her, we are to go back if she doesn't improve or if she starts to get worse. So far she has improved somewhat but not in anyway back to normal.Well now back to the nail's,he told me he was going to run a test of some sort and that he was going to cut one of her nails. Well I hadn't noticed but he cut them all except one. But they are so short that 2 of them look like they have red tip on them Or at least thats what i see. How short can they be without causing them damage or distress? The whole curve of the nail has been cut off.Oh God I hope she isn't suffering because of this. I better stop now or no one will be able to read all this. Please Please someone help me.
November 10, 200519 yr Oh, my heart dropped as I read this. How awful for you, but at least there is something that you can do. That makes you feel a tiny tad better. It sounds like maybe the nails were clipped a tad too short, but it won't distress the bird at all. Give her a kiss from me, and please keep us updated on her progress
November 10, 200519 yr OH no! Squeakie, that is heartbreaking! I know that sick feeling you are having, and I am so very sorry. My guess is your vet cut all the toenails to get enough blood for the tests. He had to cut into the quick to get them to bleed. It takes a bit of blood for testing, and it is stressful to take it with a needle in such a little bird. Her nails will be fine, they will grow back out. They are probably just sore, exactly like if we cut a nail too short and it bled too. Are the tumors fatty tumors, or a different type? I really hope the medicine your vet gave will start to work soon. Keep us posted, okay?

Sqweakie is showing signs of getting better, she will get loud and want to come out of her cage now. Even tho not for very long but it's a start. Well at least now I know that she isn't distressed with the toenails, which makes me very happy, Thank you again. :ygbudgie: Edited November 11, 200519 yr by Rainbow
November 10, 200519 yr I don't think the toenails will be a problem-just keep an eye out for infection but I shouldn't worry too much. I understand what you mean about stomach churning-I feel that way if there is ever anything wrong with mine. Good Luck and I'm sure the medications will do the trick.
November 11, 200519 yr Aw she's adorable. She looks happy and content in your picture. What did the vet tell you about the tumors? I think they can shrink.
November 11, 200519 yr Sorry to read about the first news, but good to hear that she's improving. She looks so sweet on the photo. Regarding toe nails as most people have said keep the cage clean to avoid any infections.
November 13, 200519 yr Hi everyone today is Saturday Nov.12th, and Sqweakie is doing okay, not a whole bunch better though. What was really exiteing for me today is that Sqweakie starting eating an orange with me.Yea! So hopefully she will start eating alot more vegies and fruit. I was so pleased with her I couldn't keep the smile off my face. I do have one more question and that is what should I be watching for when looking for signs of infection? I am keeping everything clean around her. Oh and I'm wondering how many more day's aproximatley, before I start seeing more improvement in her?It seems such a long time already, although it hasn't been (it will be 7 days on the14th. I am stressed all the time with worry for her. But you good people certainly do help, I'm so glad I joined this forum. :feedbirds: THANKS TO EVERYONE! :angel1:
November 13, 200519 yr Infection signs would be swelling/redness or your bird fiddling with the foot as if it's painful etc. Maybe standing very gingerly on it.
