Posted October 27, 200519 yr Hi, I noticed that in some one's post they mentioned they had insurance for their budgies... is this common and if so, what companies are best to go with?
October 27, 200519 yr i dont have mine insured. its not worth it for me as their vets bills never amount to much and vets try to avoid operating on budgies as they are so small and very high risk of not waking up. not like a cat or dog that may very well need expensive surgery and possibly a lot of aftercare and medication.
October 27, 200519 yr I've never had it but I looked into for a while thinking it might be a good idea. In the end, it didn't seem worth it. I'm still thinking of getting it for my dog though as that type of insurance seems a little more well-planned out than the ones I've seen that cover birds. Most only cover certain things and as pixie mentioned, they aren't things that you would normally have done to a budgie.
October 27, 200519 yr I think that although it makes good sense with larger animals,it is a good idea with budgies to put away an ammount of money every so often in a budgie fund for emergencies. That way you get the interest instead of the insurance companies.
October 27, 200519 yr I don't know of any UK company's which offer pet insurance for budgies or even any type of bird, so if anyone knows of any then please post here.
October 29, 200519 yr I don't have insurance but when one of my birds is sick I quickly act. An infecious disease can quickly wipe out your flock. I have about $280.00 in birds plus add to that the emotional aspect of losing my birds it's not worth it.
