cage covers

Featured Replies

jack and dianne's cover is fleece too, it has a tiger print on it. i like it because it is thick enough to keep the cage really dark so they don't start chirping in the morning until i take it off and they don't get stuck on it

You a John Cougar Mellencamp fan? I love that song :)

My cover for the Cockatiels cage is a Dark comforter that i dont use anymore i cover the cage with it and leave an opening at the back by the wall where no light can get in but air can

But i also can make my own cage covers unfortunatley i learned to sew (Laughing out loud) it bugs me i know how to sew! :) so all the Budgie cages have custom fit cage covers

I cover the big cage with a double fitted bed sheet - the only thing I could find big enough hehe! The other 2 cages are covered with a single bed sheet cut in half - all creamy yellow colour!

everytime i tryed they just climb out all grumpy ! and sit ontop of the cage and wont go back in till i take the covers off ! guess they dont like it !

with mine i just cover the cage with a towel because its thick and it works fine for me :P

I use 2 huge tablecloths that I got off my mum..my 4 love it when the cloths go on there is ;pts of contented chirps...and the silence from under there is wonderful...however someone rings the bell when its time for them to get up..I dont know who does this as I can never catch them..I think they poke each other with their wings and nod towards the bell..as if to say your turn today you ring it then hop away quick..(Laughing out loud)...I lift the cloth slowly to see who the guilty one is but everyday there is a row of innocent faces...Linda

I am going to buy a fleecy throw tonight for my birds now the winter is coming, makes me want to get in their cosy cage with them.

One of my cages has an old, insulated raincoat on top, the other is my breeding cage so it's out of the weather anyhow.

Is this okay? It's heating up here, so they won't freeze, I'm just worried about the rain.

A lot of budgies like to sit in the rain, so just make sure they have somewhere dry to sit. And just keep the wind off them at night, they'll be fine, their pretty hardy birds

As has already been said , Birds like the routine and security provide by covering their cage at night.

But also, irregular lighting routines can cause your birds to go into a soft moult, far better to cover them at same time each evening than risk this.

To have a long day then short day created by irregular lighting hours, ie not covering at same time each evening......can mess up their body clocks and cause the soft moult.

This is something to be avoided because moulting at the wrong time causes stress to the birds.

Oh dear! That explains it... my two budgies have seemed to have a few pin feathers most of the year round and I did wonder why... I've never covered mine up at the same time... just before I go to bed usually... which varies from between 10pm and midnight most days... I will have to make an extra effort to give them a proper bed time...

:D
