Had To Take Scruffy Out

Gypsy has just spent the last 30 minutes chasing Scruffy around the cage. I'm glad I was home, because she started trying to attack him. (History here - at her previous home she killed a male, but they were in a tiny cage). I have taken Scruffy out and put him in the new cage I got, which is in the hallway.

Is it worth risking putting him back? She's quite happy bringing up bub on her own. I have no idea what brought it on, I have been in here for a couple of hours, and nothing has happened that I have noticed. It started about 15 minutes after I checked on her baby though? Maybe I caused it?

Before that I noticed too that she was scraping at the inside of the box, I could here her scraping with her beak in there

I would leave them separated just to be on the safe side. She's a man hater!

She is isn't she? :)

I feel sorry for Scruffy. I can't put him in the aviary, as their are babies in there, and he will probably get beaten up there too. He can't stay in the hall, as the cats have free range of that end of the house, and I can't keep him safe. He's going to have to come in the lounge room, and just sit in a cage on his own! poor little mite. Still, it's only for few weeks, then all the budgies can go in the new big aviary.

He can stay with me :)

He's such a loveable little guy too. I rescued him and his girlfriend from a life of starvation, and being fed only bread! When they could be bothered. His girlfriend died within a week of me taking them, I just couldn't get her condition up in time. Then he spent a long time in the aviary on his own, before I got Gypsy. He's so laid back he's nearly comatose, he did everything Gypsy told him to. Poor little guy.

Poor Scruffy! I bet he was only trying to help. :) Good on you for saving him!

Aww. :) I'm so glad he's with you now!

Glad you were hom eto save him Lin. Gypsy sounds so much like me (Laughing out loud), im 'Mrs i dont need a man i can do everything on my own' according to meg..................but i havent tried battering him ..yet (Laughing out loud), joking

:P

Wonder if she's got a shiny little machete in their Dawnie :P

well if not im sure we could conjure one up fro her Lin, im a dab hand with a lathe and buff (Laughing out loud)

I've put Scruffy in a cage in the lounge room (my last cage! I'll have to get some more! (Laughing out loud)) and he is now sitting next to all the other birds. Having 5 cages in my lounge is a bit of a squeeze, and some are on my kitchen chairs - I now only have 2 chairs at the table ^_^ Priorities, right?

He is looking so happy, I haven't seen him this happy and alert for ages, so perhaps Gypsy was nastier than I noticed to him. Poor little mite. He's next to Cazaly, and they have been having a lovely little twitter together. I don't think I will bother to put him back with Gypsy, although they will go into the aviary together. There won't be any breeding boxes, so he shouldn't have to put up with Gypsy trying to have babies with him.

Scruffy is so happy! He's chirping to Winkie this morning. Normally, when Winkie is having a fly and goes and lands on Scruffy and Gypsy's cage, Scruffy gets into trouble by Gypsy! And he wouldn't have dared speak to Winkie! They are having a lovely chat this morning! Haven't seen Gypsy, I will check on the baby in a bit.

im so glad scruffy is happy Lin, Gypsy will be sat in her cage, fuming that she cant get to him and give him a good telling off foe being sociable (Laughing out loud)

Lin, do you think you will leave him where he is now, since he seems to be much happier?

Yes, I won't be putting him back in with Gypsy. When it warms up at night, and all the budgies have fledged, Gyspy and Scruffy will be joining the other budgies, in their very own, brand new aviary (well, second hand, but new to us!) I will just keep Cazaly, Winkie, and possibly Gypsy's baby inside as my inside budgies. The new aviary is way large enough to house all the budgies, and I don't forsee too many problems, as by then breeding will be over.
