Posted October 17, 200519 yr I keep trying my birds on all types of fruit and veggies and all they will eat are romain hearts and cucumber..today I cut up into small pieces cucumber, red and yellow peppers , grapes cherry tomatoes and pumpkin seeds and they have thrown it all over the cage its everywhere (Laughing out loud)..I will keep trying
October 17, 200519 yr At least they notice it! My Winkie doesn't trust a single thing that I put in her cage, and pretends it doesn't exist!
October 17, 200519 yr Keep trying! You might also want to try some germinated/sprouted seeds as well! You just don't want the tails on the seeds to grow very much, so they should not be germinated for more than 48 hours....
October 18, 200519 yr I tried them with a slice of melon last night...no takers (Laughing out loud)...today I am going to try them with herb salad..lots of different leafs...Linda
October 18, 200519 yr if they are throwing the food around at least they are taking a healthy interest in it chances are they will nibble at some. my budgies love baby spinach leaves at the moment.
October 20, 200519 yr The herb salad from sainsburys was a huge hit with all three of them and Daisy was getting hers 2nd hand from Jack...they seem to like the parsley and baby spinich leafs the best..last night I grated carrot that was ignored by Major...Jack had a throw and a nibble...and Billy had great fun chucking it all over after she tried to bath in it. I have even found some down the side of the settee today..and this lot of mine have ignored the millet spray too I thought budgies loved this stuff..it seems that the only thing they like is anything green...they did like the ground up pumkin seeds has anyone tried this in their birds...Linda PS I do enjoy the subject of foods for the budgies and will be posting regular in here as I think its going to be my thing..I breed snails and make my own calcium rich cookies to feed them so I am thinking of some way I can make these that will tempt the budgie pallet...could be a bit dry though as I use a dehydrator.
October 20, 200519 yr Feel free to post your recipes or anything like that! I'd love to try something, as my birds will only eat green stuff too!
October 22, 200519 yr Charlie and Joey have not touched any fruit or veg since I had them (three months) eventhough I have put something in their cage everyday. All they would touch is lettuce. Today I put baby spinach leaves in their cage and they have both ate it. If anyone could have seen me they would have thought I was mad I was so pleased about it. Thank you to this site everyone said it was just persistence but when you put things in their cage everyday and they don't even look at it you just wonder what you are doing wrong. Anway thank you to everyone for their advice.

October 23, 200519 yr Lin snails are lovely..I am talking about the aquatic ones and giant african land snails we have them in all colours and sizes..from the size of a pea to ones as big as your hand..they all have different personalitys and they are great to watch when there is nothing on the TV (Laughing out loud)..which is often..I think I have put our website on my profile if you are stuck for something to do one day take a look...take a look at my 4 big guys that died recently...Linda Ps no snails dont bring big money...not any more
October 23, 200519 yr Oh, I've just had a quick peek. I thought you meant garden snails, so you understand my confusion I love aquatic snails, and they are nearly impossible to get here! I want an apple snail! And for everyone else, go and have a look, theres even a snail forum! Fantastic. Wish I lived in the same country as you guys!
October 23, 200519 yr Deleted I thought you were in Canada Lin...hmmm I will see if I can see who is close to you on the forum..Linda Edited October 23, 200519 yr by pheonixx
October 25, 200519 yr I like snails too - though can't see me ever having any! Cool picture. As to the fruits and veg problem - well I bought a small wire ball the other day that hangs from the side of the cage - it has a bell on too. One side has a slightly larger gap and you can put fruit and veg in it. I put some curly kale in and the birdies were very happy!! Yes - it did end up all over the floor of the cage, but they ate a lot of it as well. They play with the ball when it's empty as well so it's a 'big hit' all round. The balls are sold for small animals. Just thought it might be a good ploy for getting reluctant vegetable / fruit eaters interested in fresh food.
November 10, 200519 yr i think my mates budgies were never really green leaf eaters until i gave him some. I guess his budgies saw mine eating green stuff so they decided to try some.. Now they all eat green leafy vegies
